"Hello?" Morticia asked

"Hi Morticia I'm here to talk to you about the scans as you know so we would like you to come by tomorrow if you can so we can discuss this in further detail." A young man said through the phone.

"Yes of course. What time could you guys take us in?"

"There is an available space for tomorrow at eight if you'd like to come them"

"Of course, we'll be there tomorrow at eight" Morticia said before hanging up

She anxiously looked down at her daughter. Another day without knowing? This was going to be a long day.

When Wednesday's mother woke her up, she was already giving her the clothes she was going to wear. She quickly changed and went to the bathroom to brush her teeth. The mirror in front of the sink showed her reflection. She looked terrible. No she looked like a monster. She had dark eye bags under her eyes. Her hair had become hideous. The feeding tube attached to her face was just another way to show people from a mile away that she was weak and pathetic. She quickly brushed her teeth looking away from the mirror trying to get the terrible thoughts out of her head.

When she was done she followed her mom to the car, entering before staring out the window trying to get her mind off the scan. But she just couldn't. What if it all turned out wrong? What if the treatment wasn't working?

While she was sucked into her thoughts she didn't notice that they had already arrived at the hospital. They walked into the hospital and into the area where she would be getting the results of the scan. They took their normal seat in the corner of the room waiting to be called in.

She waited until her anxiety started sky rocketing. Her mom seemed to notice how anxious she was and put her hand on her knee to comfort her in some way. She would never say it out loud but it did really help her feel better. After what seemed like an eternity, they finally got called in by the nurse running the front desk.

Dr. Martinez led them into his office where she had memorized every detail of it. She loved all the odd trinkets he had scattered around. Her favorite was the small scarecrow that sat on his desk. She always admired the way scarecrows looked. She loved how they could easily scare most birds away without much effort.

They both took a seat at his desk anxiously waiting for him to start talking. He looked through something on his computer before he started speaking.

"Good morning thank you guys for making it. Let's get started shall we?" he said looking at both of them "the results we got back weren't as good as we expected" he let out a sigh.

It was as if Wednesday were experiencing a collapse in the world around her. Her lungs felt like they were slowly closing, warning her that she was running low on air. She could barely make out anything around her. Even though she heard someone trying to talk to her, she had trouble expressing herself. It's as if her mouth was sealed shut. A fuzzy feeling filled her mind. She felt as if the world was slowly falling on top of her. Despite her best efforts, she was unable to move her fingers. She started seeing colors covering her vision. What was going on? She felt paralyzed. Her vision slowly started to turn black. Was she dying already? It is impossible for her to die by natural causes and not as a result of this shitty disease.

"Wednesday.... dear wake up" she could hear a muffled voice calling out to her. She needed to wake up. But it felt like she couldn't move her eyelids. Like they were glued together.

Morticia stared nervously at her daughter. Was she alright? When was she going to wake up? She had her in her arms as she was passed out. Dr. Martinez rushed quickly outside to grab some water. She felt her little girl start to move and finally she was starting to wake up.

She slowly opened her eyes quickly squinting them as the bright lights in the room shined into her eyes.

"It's okay I'm here, are you all right now?" Her mom asked her

"I'm fine. How long was I out for?" She wasn't fine.

"Just a couple of minutes thankfully. Let me help you up dear."

Her mom urged her to get up so she could sit down again in the chair. Luckily Dr. Martinez had brought some water for her. Once she was all settled he began to speak again.

"Are you okay now?" She nodded "Okay well as I was saying before the results we got back weren't as good as we expected" he paused for a second "but this is normal to see in your second cycle. The radiation therapy seems to be helping a lot, so we will continue to give you that along with your normal chemo schedule. Just so you know you are still in the remission induction and almost out of it so by maybe a week you'll be in intensification. So we would like you to come back in two weeks for another scan" he says

"So she'll have this week's chemotherapy and come back the week after to get the scan?"

"Yes" he answered "well this is it for today. Are you feeling light headed, nauseous, or a headache?" He said looking at Wednesday.

"No, I'm fine" she said

"Alright well if you are feeling light headed make sure not to do much around the house" he said walking over to the door holding it open for them.

"Thank you Dr. Martinez we'll see you in a couple of days" her mom said before walking out of the hospital with her.

Wednesday had to wait another two weeks to see if her scans were finally okay. They anxiously awaited and waited for the call. On Wednesday, they finally had their lucky day. What a coincidence.

She positioned herself next to her mother as she answered the phone so she could also listen.

"Hello?" Her mom anxiously said

"Hi I'm Dr. Martinez assistant Kylie. I'm here to talk to you about the scan results, over the phone since Dr. Martinez had an emergency to attend to. Just to let you know this is good news so let yourself breathe for a second" Kylie said

Morticia let out a shaky breath she didn't know she was holding in. "Thank you" her mom said in a whisper she could barely hear.

"Let me just get straight into it. Now that she is officially out of the remission phase, you are now in the consolidation phase which is where we will be further reducing the number of leukemia cells still in the body" she explained.

Morticia kissed her daughter's head as she brought her close to her. Her pain level was significantly lower than it had been during the first month of treatment, so she felt much better going into this phase.
