7.4. Always

Always

"Everyone, on my position. We have incoming." Natasha and Costia heard Steve say through the comms. The two were somewhere in the forest, walking towards Vision. Costia seemed to know where to go, so Natasha followed.

They stopped walking to look up at the trees, the wind was getting a little stronger. But it was the shiver they felt which made things scary. "What the hell?" Natasha said as she and Costia scanned their surroundings.

"I think we have very little time left."

The two start running, on their way Bucky joined them. And then they saw him, Thanos. He was twice as tall as Costia and a lot bigger. Natasha and Bucky tried to fight him while Costia rushed to Wanda and Vision, she tried to stay unnoticed by him.

When Costia joined the two, both of them had tears in their eyes. Vision was going to die, and Wanda and Costia had to kill him. Wanda's hands were already beaming energy at the stone, Costia raised both her hands to help her.

Vision closed his eyes, the two women kept going. Costia heard Steve scream behind them, she knew they couldn't hold Thanos off any longer. Her mind immediately wandered to her wife, if she was okay.

But then she looked behind her and saw Thanos heading towards them, not a single person there to stop him. "Wanda!" she said as she held on of her hands at Thanos, Wanda was doing the same. He protected himself with his fist. There was a gauntlet on it, with four stones.

"It's all right." Vision said reassuringly as Wanda looked at him. Costia's main focus stayed on Thanos who was getting closer and closer. "It's all right." Vision repeated. "I love you." he said, before shutting his eyes.

Costia could feel the stone shattering. The power was setting off a huge shock wave, Wanda and Costia both landed on the ground, face down.

The stone was destroyed, they did it. Thanos wouldn't be able to full-fill his plan.

Thanos panted as he looked down at them, the two women both lifted their head up. "I understand, my children." he said, his voice deep. "Better than anyone."

Wanda and Costia were breathing heavily as they sat up and looked at the alien. "You... could never." Wanda gritted out. Thanos tenderly caressed Wanda's head with his giant hand. Wanda and Costia were both too weak to do something about it.

"Today I lost more than you can know." he said. "But now is no time to mourn."

Thanos moved pass them and walked towards the place where Vision laid just a minute ago. "Now is no time at all."

The next time Costia looked up she saw fragments of Vision and the stone flying back together, Thanos was turning the time back.

"No!" Wanda screamed, but she was immediately knocked away by the alien. Costia was the next to stand up, she tried to use her powers on Thanos but he knocked her away, in the same direction where Wanda was.

Costia heard Thanos scream, but she couldn't stand up or even move at all. She tried to fight it, but she was too weak to even try.

"I told you. You'd die for that!" She heard Thor say. Then Thanos cried out in pain. Somehow this gave her hope they'd win this battle.

"You should've..." Thanos weakly said. "You... You should've gone for the head!"

"No!" Thor screamed. Then something changed, it was incredibly quiet and the wind stopped. But something was off.

"What did you do?" the god asked. "What did you do?" he repeated louder and with more anger in his voice.

"Where'd he go? Thor... where'd he go?" Costia heard Steve ask. She collected all her power and pulled herself up with the help of a tree. She slowly stumbled towards the two men.

"Steve?" Bucky's voice made them all turn around. "Costia?" They watched as suddenly his prosthetic arm turned into ash. He stumbled over and collapsed into ashes. Steve kneeled next to Bucky's dropped gun, the shock written all over his face. He pressed his hand onto the ashes of his friend.

It took Costia a few seconds to realize what had happened to Bucky. Then she screamed from the top of her lungs. "Natasha!"

She turned around and looked at Vision's body, Wanda was leaning over him. But then she faded into ashes. "No!" Costia screamed, she was to weak to walk over to her. "Natasha!" she repeated. Again and again.

Some of the others came to them, Costia's screams were leading them the way. But there was no Natasha, yet. Costia cried for her wife, Thor was holding her up, otherwise she would've collapsed on the ground.

Steve was still near the place Bucky was just a few seconds ago and the others all just stood or sat around, sad expressions on their faces.

And finally, after what felt like forever, Costia saw her wife running towards her. She had also realized what was happening.

"Natasha." Costia cried out, her voice was just above a whisper. A small smile on her lips.

"No." Natasha said as she wrapped her wife in a hug, "No, no, no." She sat down on the ground with Costia in her arms, "You're gonna be okay. Someone has to help her!" Natasha desperately screamed at the others.

Costia looked at her legs, she realized why Natasha was so upset. Some parts were covered in ashes. "Natasha." Costia whispered, Natasha turned her head back towards the woman in her arms, "This is my end, but-"

"No. No, it's not your time yet. It's not." Natasha shook her head as the first tear left her eye. She pressed a kiss on Costia's forehead and stroked some hair out of her face. "Our story is not over yet!" Natasha complained, it got harder and harder for her to talk due the uncontrollable sobs that were leaving her body.

"Listen, моя любовь." (my love) Costia whispered, her voice was so incredibly quite. She put her hand on Natasha's cheek, "It's my end, but it doesn't have to be yours. Please." Costia begged as she wiped a few tears from Natasha's face away.

"You can grief, but please continue your life, the others need you." Costia tried to smile, it didn't exactly look like a smile because of the pain she was feeling though. This was all so incredibly unfair and confusing, but Costia knew there wasn't a single thing she could do about it.

"I love you. I love you so, so much" Natasha said as she desperately tried to get air in her lungs. "I love you too, Natasha." Costia whispered, she felt her body less and less with every second.

"Please, be safe." Costia said. She felt a sudden dizziness in her head, the pain and exhaustion she felt started to fade away. She felt a single tear running down her cheek.

Was that it? Was that really her end? Was it over?

"Always." Natasha cried as she hugged Costia thightly, holding her head with one of her hands. Costia's body desolved into ash.
