~ Kai's POV ~- I love road trips! They're so fun! Kai, will you grab my Nintendo, please? – Beomgyu was over the moon from the prospect of this 5-hour road trip. He packed ample snacks, entertainment, and he was barely able to keep himself from jumping.
- Here you go. – I handed him the console. I, on the other hand, dreaded this day. Not that I didn't like spending time with my members – I just hated long roads. Ever since I was little, I was always carsick, so I tried avoiding long car rides. But today, it was inevitable.
- The car is here, guys! Let's get going! – Soobin looked into our room. Gyu almost squealed from the excitement, and ran towards the door. I grabbed my bags, took a deep breath, and went outside. We had a big van, with tinted windows, and we all had our assigned seats. Yeonjun and Soobin sat in the first row, Taehyun and Beomgyu behind them, so I had the back seats all to myself. I threw my bag next to me, buckled up, and closed my eyes, hoping to fall asleep.
~ Beomgyu's POV ~
1 hour into the trip, I was still stoked for the next 4 hours. I already ate most of my snacks, so I was playing with Soobin on my Nintendo. We were a pretty even match, so it was even more fun. When we were done, I turned around.
- Kai, wanna play with me? – The boy looked pale, as he squeezed his eyes shut. – Are you okay? – He quickly nodded, and pressed his hands on his belly.
- What's up? – Yeonjun turned back, and he saw the ill Kai too. – Are you motion sick, Kai? – he nodded again. We looked at each other with anxiety, not knowing what to do. We knew he didn't like car rides, but we never really asked why. Whenever the prospect of a road trip came into the conversation, he always insisted on taking the train, or a plane.
- Um, should we pull over? Do you need to throw up? – Yeonjun worried. Kai took a shaky breath and answered:
- Not yet. I want to get this over with.
- All right. Do you have water? Or do you need meds? – Kai nodded again and again. At least he was prepared. Tae looked up from his phone, and took out his earbuds.
- Could you turn around, hyungie? It's not safe. – Yeonjun pointed at Kai, then Tae put the pieces together. – Ah, okay. Kai, do you need anything? Sip some water, or listen to music, that works. I could lend you my eye mask, if you want to sleep.
- Did you know about this? How are you so prepared? – I asked.
- I used to have motion sickness when I was younger, so I know what to do. – He answered, while handing some gum, an eye mask, and ice-cold water to our maknae. We watched, as he put on the mask, his earbuds, and fell asleep.
- Let's keep an eye on him. – Yeonjun advised. We returned to our activities, but we looked back at Kai every minute or so. For the next hour or so, nothing interesting happened. Kai was asleep, so we started to calm down too.
We were around halfway there, when someone tapped my shoulder.
- Hyungie, can we stop? – As I looked back, I was faced with a very pale and shaking maknae. He only whispered, and kept one of his hands on his mouth, and grabbed his stomach with the other one.
- Pull over, please! Kai is about to be sick! – I yelled, spooking everyone in the car. The driver took a sharp right turn, and pulled over at the side of the highway. Kai opened the door, and ran to the nearby bushes. Yeonjun followed him, and Soobin looked up from his laptop.
- What's happening, why did we stop? – He looked kind of annoyed.
- Kai is carsick, and he's throwing up. – Taehyun answered, while looking at the sick boy. I also got out, to see if I could help.
Kai was hunched over the safety railing, gagging and throwing up, Yeonjun was caressing his back. Every so often, the younger would stop, and take a few deep, shaky breaths.
- How are you feeling, Kai-ya? – I held one of his hands. He was shivering, and was breaking out in cold sweat. He couldn't answer, but he didn't need to: he looked very unwell.
- It has been going on for 3 minutes now, I'm getting kind of worried. What more could his stomach expel? He didn't even eat that much. – Yeonjun remarked. I had to agree, the maknae didn't eat breakfast, and only had a slice of bread for dinner.
- Okay, I think I'm done. – Kai spoke in a hoarse voice, as he spat out some saliva. His legs were trembling, and he had to hold onto me and Yeonjun to stand. We both put his arms on our shoulders, and carried him back to the van.
- Are you okay, Kai? What happened? – Soobin asked. Kai just shook his head, and climbed into the back seat. I followed him, I didn't want to leave him alone in this state.
- He will be better, so let's just go. – Yeonjun replied, and we started the rest of the journey.
~ Huening Kai's POV ~
I was feeling worse and worse every second, after we started moving again. Beomgyu tried to distract me by showing me funny videos, but my vision was so blurry, that I couldn't see basically anything. The nausea didn't go away, indeed, it got worse. I was wildly uncomfortable. I was dizzy, nauseous and my body was aching. I wanted to go home.
I tried sleeping, listening to music, chewing gum, but nothing worked. After around 10 minutes of driving, I felt my stomach contract, and I let out a gag. I grabbed the seat before me, and hung my head, trying to make it all go away.
- He's gagging again, guys. We have to stop! – Gyu informed the others.
- We can't pull over, he has to hold on for two more minutes. – The driver was just as panicked as Beomgyu was, and he was frantically looking around for a section on the road, where he could park the vehicle. I was crying at this point, holding on for dear life.
- A few more minutes, can you do that for me? Just hold on, you will be all right. – Gyu whispered reassuring words to me, but I didn't hear him. Taehyun turned around to help me calm down, Yeonjun was looking for something, that I could throw up in, and Soobin was googling methods to help me.
- Hyungie, I can't... make it stop, I can't do this... - I whispered, and grabbed his hand.
We finally pulled over, and I barely managed to open the door, I was so weak. Gyu helped me out of the car, and held me, while I was throwing my guts out. After a minute, there was nothing else in my system, so I was just dry-heaving. Tears were streaming down my face, my stomach was spasming and cramping, and I felt myself sweating again. I was holding onto my knees, my head hanging low, when I was done.
- There we go. How are you feeling? – I heard Soobin's voice.
- Not good. – I felt my body becoming weaker and weaker, and I had to reach out to him, to stabilize myself. For a few seconds, my sight was gone, and my head was buzzing. I thought I was going to faint right there.
- Oh, I got you, Kai. Come on, it's cold outside. – He carried me back, and I was placed next to Gyu, again. He gave me a small pill, that I swallowed without thinking. In a matter of minutes, a wave of tiredness washed over me, and I gladly gave in.
I was finally able to sleep.
- Kai? Good morning, prince, we're here. Can you get out, or do you want me to help? – Soobin's voice awoke me, and I looked around. We were parked before the hotel.
I made it.
- No, I think I'm okay. – I felt much stronger, than before. Someone already grabbed my bags, so all I had to do was go to my room, lay down, and rest. And that's exactly what I did.
A few days later, when we were done with the activities, the managers surprised us with plane tickets, so thankfully, I didn't have to go through a road trip again.
