~ S.Coups' POV ~
I have been having problems with my breathing ever since I was a kid. It wasn't that disruptive, I was taking medications for it. Usually, I needed more rest than the others during dance, and I get winded easier. But that was about it.
It was time for our annual health check-up. A doctor came into the company building, and examined all of us thoroughly. I never really had any major problems, so I wasn't nervous. It was important, that we stay healthy.
- Seungcheol, come in. – This year, the doctor who usually examines us retired, so a new one took his place. He was a middle-aged, kind man, I trusted him completely. I walked into the office, sat down, and let him do his thing.
- I see that you're taking a medication twice a day. Is it working well for you?
- Yes, it's for my breathing troubles. It's working fine, I would say.
- Good to hear. Listen, this medication you're taking will be taken off the shelves soon. So we need to start you on a new medication, so you can transition from the old one, okay?
- Uh, yeah, sure. How come it's getting taken off?
- The company is going bankrupt, sadly. The new medication has nearly the same components, so it should work just fine. I'll write it up for you. If there's any problem with it, please give me a call. Other than this, you are in perfect physical shape.
I took the paper he wrote me, and headed out. I informed our manager about the change, and he went to the pharmacy to retrieve the new medication.
~ 1 week time skip ~
I don't know what was happening with me. In the past few days, I was getting tired so easily, and I had to stop dancing every five minutes. My lungs felt like they were shrunken, and I was wheezing all the time.
I knew it was probably from the new medication, so I called the doctor up. He told me it was normal, and the transition from one pill to another could result in a temporary flare-up. I didn't question him, he knew best. So, I endured.
One thing that was worrisome, was that we are having a small concert tomorrow. It's nothing big, only 1000 tickets went on sale, but we still had to dance and sing. During rehearsals, I needed to sit down constantly, I was in pain and uncomfortable. I was torn between accepting my bad condition, and sitting during the showcase, or choosing to push through it and hope for the best.
I choose to perform. Like I always do.
~
In a few minutes, I will be on stage, and I don't know how I will handle it. We will have frequent breaks for costume changes, so I will have time to sit down and get myself together. But this didn't stop me from worrying.
We were already dressed and we had our mics: we were ready to start. Usually, I say a few words before we go on stage, but today, I was in no shape to motivate. Soonyoung took over for me, he motivated the team, and he made sure all of them were good.
- Let's go, guys! – He said, and we entered the stage. The short distance from backstage to the middle of the stage was already exhausting, but on top of that, the stage lights were making me hot, my outfit was tight, and I felt like I could pass out at any second.
Our first song was of course Super, our newest title track. It was an especially hard choreo, it required a lot of stamina and coordination. I felt my moves being sloppy, and I was a beat behind everybody, but I was happy that I didn't fall over.
