Chapter 26

Katsuki was rapidly punching in another passcode for the elevator when Shoto's question broke the silence. "... don't you think that's a little much? I mean they could just fly to the top floor if they wanted." Katsuki stopped abruptly, turning to glare at Shoto, his crimson eyes ablaze with annoyance. Izuku stood between them, his gaze darting nervously between the two.

"What?" Katsuki snapped, his patience wearing thin as Shoto's comment hit a nerve. "You think I fucking built this place, dumbass?" He slammed the floor button, causing the elevator doors to close with a resounding thud. The sudden outburst caused Izuku to flinch, and a pang of guilt mixed with his anger flared inside Katsuki. He needed to vent, but he didn't want to scare Izuku.

The trio settled into the apartment, waiting for Aizawa's arrival. Katsuki's anger was still simmered beneath the surface. He couldn't shake off the image of Izuku almost being taken by the villain, and his mind was still clouded with anger and worry. As they settled into the apartment, Katsuki's emotions continued to churn, causing him to pace back and forth restlessly, his hands clenching and unclenching.

Izuku sat on the kotatsu floor couch, his eyes following Katsuki as he paced.
Shoto stood by the window, ever vigilant, keeping watch for any signs of trouble. The room was filled with an uneasy silence, broken only by the sound of Katsuki's heavy footsteps on the wooden floor.

Unable to contain his frustration, Katsuki turned to face Izuku, the intensity in his gaze still burning fiercely. "How the hell do you know that bastard? Do you remember anything?" he asked, the frustration evident in his voice.

"I-I don't remember, maybe I knew him before, maybe... but the amnesia..." Izuku's voice trailed off, his brows furrowing with frustration.

Katsuki clicked his tongue irritably. "Dammit," he muttered, running a hand through his spiky hair. "Where the hell is that caterpillar fuck? We need answers."

"He'll be here soon," Shoto said, his tone calm and measured.

Before Katsuki responded another voice caught his attention.

Just as he was about to voice more of his agitation, Izuku timidly addressed him. "Umm, Katsuki?" Izuku's voice was soft and unsure, and Katsuki's eyes snapped to him.

"What?" Katsuki snapped back; his tense demeanor not fully softened yet from the earlier encounter.

Izuku flinched slightly at the harsh tone but mustered the courage to express his gratitude. "I just wanted to say...thank you," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.

Katsuki's eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "Thank you? The hell for?"

"For saving me. If you hadn't shown up when you did...I don't know what would have happened. I'm not sure why they wanted me, but I'm guessing it has to do with the quirk I supposedly have."

Katsuki's expression softened slightly, but he quickly averted his gaze, trying to hide his emotions. "Don't mention it, Deku," he grumbled as he walked over to the kotatsu, plopping down across from Izuku. "I already said I would protect you with my damn life, and I meant that."

Izuku offered Katsuki a small, grateful smile, appreciating the reassurance. "Also, I called you what was it...Kacchan. Was that a nickname I had for you?" he asked, his tone curious.
