Katsuki's eyes snapped open, the harsh white lights of the hospital room stabbing into his senses like daggers. Blinking against the intrusion, his surroundings slowly came into focus. The sterile environment, the quiet hum of machinery, and the faint smell of antiseptic assaulted his senses. With a groan, Katsuki's fingers twitched, his effort to move his arm revealing the discomfort of various tubes and IV lines tethered to his body. He was confined to a hospital bed, an array of tubes and wires connecting him to the various contraptions that monitored his condition.
His head throbbed mercilessly, a dull ache that seemed to permeate every fiber of his being. His mind felt foggy, his thoughts swimming through a haze of disorientation. He tried to move, to sit up, but a sharp jolt of pain shot through his ribs, forcing him back down onto the unforgiving bed.
Mitsuri, sat beside his bed, her eyes red and swollen as if she had been crying for hours. "Old Hag?" His voice came out as a croak, his throat parched and scratchy.
"Katsuki!" Her voice was a mix of relief and concern as she hurried to his side, her hand reaching out to gently brush his cheek. "Oh my god, you're awake. How do you feel?"
Katsuki's brow furrowed, his mind struggling to process the situation. He attempted to sit up again, a grimace of pain contorting his features as his ribs protested violently. "Like shit," he muttered through gritted teeth.
Mitsuri offered him a sad smile, "You've been out for a little under five days now," she explained softly, her voice a soothing compared to her usual brashness. "You were in pretty bad shape when they brought you in."
Closing his eyes, Katsuki tried to piece together the events leading up to this moment. Fighting the Nomu, the sudden appearance of the League of Villains, and then amidst the chaos of his memories, one name shone like a beacon in the haze: Izuku. The flood of memories hit him like a physical blow.
His heart clenched painfully as his thoughts settled on Izuku. The pain seemed insignificant compared to the pain in his heart as his body reacted instinctively, a surge of energy propelling him to sit up, only for agony to rip through his ribs, a guttural groan escaping him.
"Deku... Where the hell is he?" The urgency in his voice was unmistakable, his voice filled with concern.
Mitsuri's touch was gentle as she pressed a hand against his arm, trying to calm him down. "No, they haven't found him yet," she said gently. "But they're still looking. The police and the heroes are doing everything they can."
Katsuki stilled. The information sinking in as Katsuki's heart raced, struggling to process the news. His mind was flooded with images of Izuku lying hurt and alone somewhere, the memory of him dying in his arms resurfaced with a vengeance. Fear and guilt clawed at his insides, and he felt like he was suffocating.
He moved to throw off the covers, his body rebelling against his urgency, but his mother gently pushed him back down. "You need to rest and heal," she said firmly. "You won't be any good to him if you're not strong enough to help."
"I CAN'T DAMMIT," Katsuki yelled as he tried to get out of bed again, his desperation making his voice crack.
Katsuki's mother was taken aback by his outburst. "Katsuki, you need to calm the hell down," she said sternly. "You're not helping anyone by getting yourself worked up like this."
"I CAN'T CALM DOWN! HE'S BEEN GONE FOR FIVE DAYS!" His voice rose, the raw emotion simmering beneath the surface spilling over, uncontainable. His eyes burned with anger, fear, and guilt, his chest heaving as he struggled to catch his breath. "Deku is my everything! How can you fucking expect me to just sit here and do jack shit while he's out there, suffering?!"
