Chapter 13
After what felt like an eternity, Katsuki's phone buzzed in his office, interrupting him filing paperwork. With a quick glance at the screen, he saw the notification informing him that Deku was stable enough to receive visitors. Without a moment's hesitation, he hastily gathered his belongings, his mind fixated on seeing Deku again. Storming into his assistant's office, he spoke with his usual assertiveness.
"I'll be out for the rest of the day. Transfer all my calls to those idiot head heroes, Red Riot and Charge Bolt," he declared, not bothering to wait for any confirmation.
Katsuki had begrudgingly expressed remorse for his savage behavior to both Kirishima and Sero the day after the incident. But they both brushed it off, saying it was deserved.
"Man, if I had known it was because Midoriya woke up, I would NOT have tried to stop him, you crazy Kirishima," Sero chuckled, his laughter filling the room. Kirishima shrugged, his usual easygoing smile on his face.
"Sorry for trying to stop you, bro," Kirishima offered a sincere apology to Katsuki.
"Don't worry about it, man. We all make mistakes," Sero chimed in with Kirishima, slapping Kirishima on the back in a reassuring manner. "Let's just focus on our patrol routes and kick some villain ass!"
Katsuki's nerves were on edge as he neared the hospital. He hadn't fully considered what he would say to Izuku. It had been so long since they had spoken. What could he say to him when he had practically abandoned him in that crevice. If he had been there any later, Izuku would have died there by himself with no one to comfort him.
Katsuki pushed the thought away as he pulled up to the entrance of the hospital. He couldn't bear the thought of almost losing his childhood friend and blamed himself for not being able to get them out sooner. As he rushed inside, he promised himself to never let this happen again and that he would always protect him, even if it cost him his life.
Katsuki's heart pounded in his chest as he entered the hospital elevator, his grip on the metal railing tight. The anticipation of seeing Deku again consumed him, but doubt and fear crept into his mind. The door dinged, and the elevator opened on the second floor. He stood in front of the door leading to Deku's room, his hand hovering above the handle. His mind raced, and his heart felt like it would burst out of his chest. The ring glistened on his finger. This oddly felt like Deja Vu.
Just fucking go in already, dammit! You've waited years for this day.
But before he could turn the handle, Aizawa's voice called out to him, causing him to freeze.
"Bakugo, come here for a second. I need to talk to you before you go in," Aizawa requested, his voice calm but firm.
Katsuki turned towards Aizawa, his expression of annoyance evident. "Yeah, what is it now? I thought he had the all-clear already," he replied, impatient.
"That's not what this is about."
"...then?" Katsuki's frustration grew, his eyes narrowing as he waited for an explanation.
Aizawa's words hit him like a punch to the gut. "Midoriya is suffering from severe memory loss. The doctors don't know if he'll ever regain what he's lost."
Katsuki's confusion turned to anger, his brows furrowing as he tried to process the information, "What the fuck does that mean?"
"It means he doesn't remember anything beyond his last few days of middle school," Aizawa explained, his tone matter-of-fact.
