Chapter 57

The next two days felt like a rollercoaster for Katsuki, testing his emotional limits to the max. He got the all-clear from the doctors pretty damn quickly, but that didn't mean he was about to leave Izuku alone in that hospital bed. Hell no, he didn't even want to entertain the thought of what would go down if he wasn't there and Izuku went into full blown panic mode.

Aizawa dropped by with some updates from the Hero Association – they couldn't agree on jack shit during their meeting. Thankfully, they decided to wait until Izuku was back on his feet before they would broach the subject again. The last thing he needed was a bunch of suits and ties poking around while Izuku was still on the mend.

As Izuku's condition stabilized, the medical staff deemed it necessary to conduct some final check-ups to ensure all his bones and bits had patched up right.

However, getting Izuku to stay calm during this procedure was anything other than easy. The trauma he had experienced, coupled with that anxiety, made him incredibly difficult and borderline aggressive when it came to any attempts made by the medical staff. It was painful for Katsuki to watch, knowing these people were just trying to help.

There was this one moment when Izuku seemed to be cooperating, sitting on the edge of the bed while some nurse did her thing. Katsuki seized the opportunity and dashed to the bathroom. That's when another nurse came in sauntered in, tripped over her own damn feet, and turned a metal tray with medical supplies into a full-on percussion concert. The crashing chaos echoed through the room like an unholy symphony, and Katsuki's heart hammered along with it.

He surged back into the room, eyes zeroing in on Izuku. He was visibly shaken, his wide eyes darting around the room in panic. The nurse who caused this ruckus was in full apology mode, but her words seemed to fall on deaf ears as Izuku's anxiety took over.

"Fuck," Katsuki muttered under his breath, trying to think of a way to calm him down. He moved quickly, standing in front of Izuku, trying to shield him from anything else that might startle him. He put on a tough front, trying to act nonchalant despite the turmoil inside him. Thankfully Izuku's flight or fight response seemed to be leaning more towards fear than aggression.

"Hey, Deku, it's alright. It was just an accident," Katsuki said, trying to keep his voice steady. "No one's gonna hurt you. I'm here, okay?"

But Izuku had gone beyond the realm of reason. His body shook like a leaf in a tornado, and he practically ejected himself from the bed, slamming into the wall in an attempt to put a continent's worth of distance between him and the nurses. His movements were erratic and uncontrolled, unintentionally ripping out the medical lines that were attached to his body. The nurse, visibly flustered and upset herself, took a step back, giving them some space.

Katsuki gently took Izuku's hand in his own, trying to anchor him. "Look at me, Deku. Focus on me," he urged, trying to maintain eye contact with him. "Breathe with me, okay? In, out, in, out."

He took deep, measured breaths, praying that Izuku would sync up with him. It took an eternity, but eventually, Izuku's breaths started to match Katsuki's, albeit still shaky.

"That's it, keep breathing," Katsuki encouraged. "You're safe. No one's gonna hurt you."

It was a long and exhausting process, but eventually, He managed to calm Izuku down. Katsuki stayed by his side, holding his hand, until his breathing returned to a somewhat normal rhythm. He didn't let go, fearing that any sudden movement might set Izuku off again.
