Y/n's POV

"Estella what are you doing here?" I demand, my voice dangerous and not working at all to mask my anger.

"I thought I would check in and tell you this in person." My mother speaks, standing a few feet in front of me.

"I will give you two some privacy." Snape tells us, but I don't exactly want him to go. He saw my mother hit me that night Dumbledore was killed, how could he let me alone with this psycho?

He leaves his office and I wait for the sound of the door closing before I speak next.

"What do you want?"

"To assure that you are only a child, and you cannot and will not decide for yourself which side you are on, where you will live, or whether or not I am your mother."

"I'm eighteen years old, I can make my own choices. The trace isn't on me anymore, I'm of legal age to do whatever the hell I want. And I will be saying this one time, the last time: You are not my mother, you're just the women I came out of, but you did not raise me."

"The hell I didn't-!"

"If you raised me then what did I do on my thirteenth birthday?" I inquire, "How old was I when I got my first period? Who was my first boyfriend? Who taught me how to do my makeup correctly? You were there for none of that, so stop calling yourself my mother!"

A couple things happened next, first I noticed her draw out her wand, I drew out mine instinctively, a spell shot out from her wand-tip, Stupefy I believe.

"Protego!" I chant, the spell bounces off the magical forcefield, "Confringo!"

She dodges my hex,

"Incarcerous!" I jump behind Snape's desk, thinking of what to hit her with. I jump back out, my wand aloft,

"Bombarda!"

"Crucio-" My mother almost uses the Cruciatus curse on me, but I'm faster.

"Expelliarmus!" I scream, Estella's wand flies from her hand and she falls backward, unable to catch herself.

With my chest heaving in exhilaration at our duel, and my mind unbelieving that I won, I walk over to the loser of the duel.

"If I can beat you at dueling," I say lowly, chest still rising and falling rapidly, "Then I think I can make my own decisions."

She grabs her wand and gets to her feet, shoving it back into her robe pocket. Her cheeks are pink with humiliation.

"Get out of here before I tell Snape what you were about to do, he'll have you banned from Hogwarts forever for that."

With a look that reminded me of Bellatrix's after Max beat her in a duel, she turns and leaves the office without a word to Snape.

I look around Snape's office, feeling awful at the shattered glasses and portraits fallen off the walls.

"I'm sorry," I apologize, using my wand to fix everything.

"It's quite alright, Y/n," he says, pulling his out at well and cleaning the mess. "Who started the duel?"

"Estella."

"And she lost?" I nod, feeling a little prideful at my small victory. "Why did she come?"

"She wants to make me think that I can't make my own choices, even though I'm technically an adult." I say simply, without going into detail.

When Snape's office is finally cleaned up, I leave and go back to class, slightly rattled from the encounter, but hopeful that she will leave me alone from now on.
