One part of the whole mate/rejection process that no one ever talks about is the fact that, when you reject your mate, they have to officially accept your rejection in order for it to be binding. This meant that Thea would have to talk to Greyson and get him to officially accept the rejection before she could actually move on.
Not that there was anything to move on to. She knew she had made this decision. She knew it was the right thing to do. But that did not make it any better for her. She was basically resounding herself to a life of loneliness. She would have to watch as everyone grew up and found their mates and got on with their lives. The only hope for her was that she found someone who either had also been rejected by their mate or who had to be widowed. Slim pickings in her pack. There was the potential to meet a human guy and that he would be accepting of her but it seemed a little too good to be true. Accepting that she was a werewolf and a witch was a lot even for a werewolf mate.
But as the weeks went by after the birthday and with her not spending as much time with Amirah as she was getting to know her new found mate, the idea was becoming more and more appealing to Thea. She watched as Tristan became a devoted partner. He adored Amirah, it was plain to see. He would go out of his way to try and make her happy. Doing the cutest little things like organising dates for them or buying her flowers or heading out for walks to spend time with her.
He even asked Thea for ideas with no clue how much it pained Thea to even discuss romantic ideas. But she didn't want to arouse suspicion so she played along. She was actually surprised that Greyson hadn't mouthed about the two of them to anyone yet. But then again, Greyson had found himself in hot water over being caught in a compromising position with a girl who had apparently just turned sixteen a few days before the party.
To be fair to him she had said that she was eighteen soon.
So she tried to carry on as normal with her school work and her home life. She helped Harper with her homework and helped Willow practise her letters and numbers. She would be home every day after school to make dinner for her family and focus on her studies.
Tristan and Amirah were enjoying the post mating stage of their relationship. This was the first boyfriend Amirah had ever had and they were taking things slow for the first little while until she felt comfortable. Tristan was being great. Thea knew he was a little frustrated but he wasn't saying anything. It was odd for a couple not to have mated, six weeks after they first linked but not unheard of. Amirah wanted everything to be special and was working hard to make sure that the first actual time they were together would be unforgettable.
It was a random Wednesday afternoon when Thea and her family were invited to Amirah's family's house for dinner as there was something that needed to be discussed. Thea assumed it was about the couple. But she played along, got dressed up and headed over with her father and siblings to the pack house.
Thea could smell Greyson as soon as she arrived. It was strange, she was attracted to the smell, unlike any she had ever encountered before but it also filled her with rage. But she hid it well. Amirah was at the door with Elysie ready to greet the family as they arrived. "Thank you for inviting us, Elysie," Paul smiled as he kissed her hand.
"Thank you for coming. We are eating in the family room if that is ok? The formal dining hall is much too big for the intimate dinner we have planned."
"That sounds great," he smiled. "I can smell that the cook has been working hard. Smells good."
"It's distracting, isn't it? Imagine trying to work with that smell lingering all day," Alpha Hanson laughed. "I have been trying to sneak into the kitchens all day but keep getting caught." He pulled Thea's father in for a manly hug and then hugged the kids. "Hope everyone is as hungry as I am?" He smiled.
