Kate walked into the kitchen that morning with Stefan trailing behind her, silently observing the way she fit so comfortably in the kitchen, the living room, his bedroom, the memories they shared brought warmth to his chest, a smile appeared on his face.

"Do you want toast?" Kate asked gently, not bothering to turn around, Stefan smile slowly fell to a confused one. Kate looked up, staring out the window. "You're wondering how I know you're there, your face reflects off the toaster."

Stefan chucked, Kate turned around scanning his appearance, he looked good, like the same old Stefan. "Hey, uh, I wanted to talk to you about something." Kate spoke softly, walking around the island to the kitchen table.

Stefan stepped forward, sitting down across from her. Kate clasped her hands together. "Okay, I know that you and I haven't had a chance to talk, especially since that— that night." Stefan nodded crossing his arms. "And I want to apologize for how naive I was, I didn't acknowledge that you were suffering and that's not me, you know that... I guess I thought you hated me so I gave you, your space because I thought that's what you wanted."

Stefan gazed softened, reaching out taking her hand into his own, squeezing her hand with a gentle smile lingering in his face. "Kate, I could never hate you, not now, not never. And you don't have to apologize for anything, you're my girlfriend—" Kate smiled, bitting the inside of her cheek. "I love you, and don't ever keep your distance from me again because I can't handle the idea of not having you."

"Oh gosh..." she mumbled keeping her head down, with burning scarlet cheeks. Stefan smiled at her flustered state, and in that moment the vampire had forgotten about the angry that he carried on him from his suffering moments in that safe in the bottom of the quarry.

Kate was his heart, the only person who carried his heart in her soft, gentle, caring hands and he wouldn't have it any other way.

"I, uh, called Caroline." Kate mentioned, she knew the issues Stefan was dealing with and she knew her blonde friend was capable of helping them. Stefan furrow and the door bell rang through out the house.

Stefan stood up walking to the door, Kate quickly followed him, the door swing open to reveal their friend. Caroline smiled brightly. "Hi!"

"I spent three months drowning in this thing. What the hell were you thinking?" Stefan asked, glaring down at the sliver safe laying on his house floor.
