// praying for the dead
— one hundred six

KATE AND ELENA ARRIVED to the hospital after Stefan called them from the hospital. Caroline believed she found a solution to her mother's cancer when she tested her blood on a cancer patient at Duke, she had great hopes when she saw him up on his feet but last night he found her and he died immediately.

"Sucks that you didn't get to on your dinner date with Damon." Kate spoke up, hands shoved inside her coat.

Elena hummed. "Kai always seemed to ruin everything, huh?" She chuckled lightly.

"Oh yeah, he's damn good at appearing out of nowhere, he needs like, a bell or something." Kate says, looking over to her sister.

Elena laughed, crinkling her nose. Kate smiled at the sight. "You guys doing anything tonight?"

"Uh, I don't know, Damon mentioned something about going on a second date." Elena responded, pressing her chin against the ruffle of her coat, she then cocked her. "Well, I think we need to go on the first one before we have our second."

"Hi."

Stefan spoke from before them. Kate and Elena immediately stood up at the sight of him. "Any news?" Kate asked.

Stefan shook his head. "No, not yet. It's a little outside of Jo's expertise."

Elena exhaled. "Did you know that Caroline was gonna give her mom vampire blood?"

"Yeah, I was there when it healed Colin." Stefan stated, the trip to Duke was a success until Colin died from the blood. The vampire also mentioned that he visited his distance family member Sarah which Kate had yet to meet.

Elena cocked her head. "And then you left, and then he died. So it didn't actually heal him. It did the opposite." She declared with a slight scoff.

"Caroline had every right reason to think it would work." Stefan defended. Elena exhaled and shook her head. "Yeah, but you didn't, Stefan. You're like, what? One hundred and sixty five years old, you've worked as a paramedic at hospitals."

"So that makes me an expert in supernatural cancer treatment." Stefan replied with a hum.

"I just wished that you'd done a little bit more research." Elena exclaimed, shrugging her shoulders. "Or waited, uh, like a day."

"Because you were thinking so rationally when Damon died, right?" Stefan snapped. Kate puffed her cheeks, awkwardly looking around them.

Elena was taken back by his statement. She dropped her shoulders. "Her mother is terminal. You didn't see the hope in her eyes when she thought that maybe her mother didn't have to die and I didn't want to be the one to take that away from her."

Kate sighed when her gazed shifted behind Stefan to the blonde. Stefan noticed and looked back. "Uh, Jo has an idea." Caroline spoke quietly.
