"What is this" Koyal asked Vardhaan her eyes fixed elsewhere, neglecting to look at the papers he held, "Your happiness, see for yourself" replied Vardhaan. As Koyal looked at the papers the ground beneath her seemed to disappear, leaving her suspended in an ocean of emotions. Tears welled up and flowed down her cheeks, unstoppably.
"Vardhaan....this....why?"Koyal shuttered and asked him. "Yes Koyal I thought about this a lot. I havethought about this for almost three years now. If being with me was not your wish and a compulsion, then isn't it good to be free from me? May be we were not destined to be together." Vardhaan replied.
"It's not like you're thinking, please listen to me once" Koyal told Vardhaan. "I have heard enough of what I had to hear. You're nani is not here now. I will talk to everyone. You don't need to stay with me anymore." Vardhaan said to Koyal.
Flash back
Koyal had returned from New York after 8 months of her marriage on the Christmas holidays. She had kept this news as a surprise for everyone except her brother in laws and sister in law. When Koyal returned, Vardhaan had an important meeting in Bangalore so he was not there.
When he came to know about the arrival of his wife he was over the moon in his happiness. They talked a very few times in these 8 months as Koyal was all busy in her studies and Vardhaan in setting up his own company. Moreover they never got the time and opportunity to make a bond between them. This surprise of Koyal's had taken their relationship many levels ahead.
So over the phone call both had decided that Vardhaan would come in the evening and then they would talk to each other. Both Koyal and Vardhaan were eager to talk and meet each other. But their fate had other plans.
Koyal's uncle Uday came on that very afternoon to take Koyal with him. Koyal wanted to deny him, and say she wanted to meet her husband, however being the people's pleaser she was, she could not. So she went to her marital house with a heavy heart.
Here an excited Vardhaan came back to Chandigarh, with lots of excitement to meet his wife. He had a lot of things to talk with her, a lot of things planned to do with her. He was disappointed when he came back home to find his wife gone. He felt as if Koyal did not want to meet him. Yet he explained his heart maybe she was too shy to deny. His younger brother could not bear to see his big bro so unhappy, that's why he gave him an idea to go to Koyal's house in a discrete way and surprise Koyal with Vivek's help.
As planed Vardhaan did go there but what he saw there broke his heart into a million pieces. Koyal was talking to a boy, more like expressing her feelings to him.
"Well it's not like it was my decision to marry him. As you see nani is so serious. It was her and chachu's decision. I don't even like him. It's just a family pressure, nothing else. It's just a matter of time till we part ways." Koyal said to that boy.
"What if he likes you?" The boy asked Koyal. "I don't think that's the thing. He also surely doesn't like me. If he did he wouldn't send me to USA just after 5 days of marriage. The day I get free from this marriage will be the happiest day of my life. I will get my freedom back." Koyal replied that boy.
"What if he never leaves you?" The boy again asked Koyal. "Well it might be a possibility as in families like us such loveless marriage are common. I will just carry the burden of this marriage for the rest of my life then." Koyal told that boy.
By now Vardhaan had already lost all his hopes from this relation. He was shocked to hear his wife thoughts about him. He had anger and disappointment in him. He felt as if the tiny crush he had on her, was stabbing him. He felt betrayed. He thought all those sweet glances Koyal gave him were a mirage, an illusion created by him.
"Hey who are you?" The boy asked Vardhaan. "No one important. Please continue your talk. I am sorry for the interruption." Vardhaan told that boy. Koyal turned around to see Vardhaan. Vardhaan just threw the bouquet of flowers he had brought for Koyal in the dustbin and left. Koyal kept calling him from behind but of no use the damage was already done. The distance had crept in.
Flashback ends
That day a distance came between them. The distance was so big that it kept Koyal and Vardhaan strangers for these three years of their marriage. Vardhaan became heartbroken whereas Koyal felt guilty. However Vardhaan was never able to let go of his likeness for her. He always sent a gift and card on their marriage anniversary, on Valentine's day and on her birthdays. Koyal on the other hand could never gain the courage to call or message Vardhaan. She always felt this matter was too big to be solved on the phone. Her ignorance and procrastination to talk to Vardhaan about it had brought this situation.
