Night out

I can barely keep my eyes open driving home after a nightshift, I've been doing this for years and it doesn't get any easier. I'm 25 years old and I've been a police detective for 3 years and I joined the metropolitan police at 18. You may be thinking that I'm young to be a detective, but my father was a well known and respected officer, so they gave me a chance, and it paid off. My father was KIA 4 years ago and his killer managed to slip away from us. I continuously looked for him for 2 years but I eventually stopped as there has been no new information and my family and friends could see it was draining me.

I eventually arrived home, kicked my shoes off and made my way up the stairs to my bedroom. I laughed to myself as I seen my dog, Holly, lying in the middle of my bed. I got her 2 years ago when I got this house, she's a golden retriever and the best purchase I've ever made.

I walked into my en-suite, took off my clothes and jumped straight into the shower, letting the hot water rinse my body of the long and stressful nightshift I just had. Me and my partner, Emily Jones, got called in for backup because 2 petty officers were holding a young black kid in handcuffs outside of his house when he was just trying to get home. Luckily, after me and Emily talked to his parents, they were understanding and decided not to go further.

After my shower, I quickly towel dried my hair and put on pyjamas and ordered a pizza, sue me, it's technically night time for me. I was laying in bed with Holly watching greys anatomy when I heard the doorbell ring and eagerly made my way downstairs to grab and pay for the pizza. I put a sachet of dog meat into Holly's bowl and brought it upstairs too so she wouldn't try to eat my food. Once we were both finished, I turned off the tv and got comfortable in bed and fell asleep relatively quickly.

I was rudely awakened by my best friend Emily bombarding me with calls and messages, now I was awake I decided to answer,

"Hello", I answered groggily.

"We're going out tonight, it's the opening of a bar in town called Lux", she replied excitedly.

"Seriously Em, I was on nightshift last night, I'm not-"

"We're going, end of story, be ready for 8.30, I'll see you then", she rudely interrupted and hung up the call.

"I guess I'm going out tonight", I mumbled to myself.
