Dahan-dahang bumukas ang pinto, and my mom pokes her head out nervously before she locks eyes with me. "Reizl?" masayang sabi nito.
Mama wraps me in a suffocating hug and leads me into the warmth home. Blake closes the front door as my mom steps back, habang hinahaplos nito ang balikat ko.
"Reizl, baby. Sobra akong nag-alala sa'yo." sabi nito. "Alam ko po..I'm sorry." mahina kong sabi.
"Wag ka ng mag-alala, andito ka naman na..pero paano ka pala nakapunta dito ng mabilis---?
"We were only an hour up north." biglang sabi naman ni Blake na kinakagat ko sa ibabang labi ko. "When you guys got off the phone, I got the feeling that Isabella here was missing you, so I insisted on driving her down." sabi nito saka ko tiningnan si Mama na natigilan at napapunas sa luha niya bago tiningnan si Blake na nakataas ang isang kilay pero agad napalitan yun ng isang malapad na ngiti.
"At sino naman ang gwapo na to na kasama mo?" tanong ni Mama . "Uhm.." Anong sasabihin ko?!
"Hi, Ma'am, I'm Blake. It's good to finally meet you. " bati nito.
"Oh, please. Call me Tita." nakangiti na sabi ni Mama na kinangiti ko.
Blake wraps his arm around my waist, and the pair eagerly await my response, but my mounth dries.
"So, paano kayo nagkakilala?" tanong ni Mama at nagkatinginan kami ni Blake at nagnod siya sa akin kaya huminga ako ng malalim.
"Mom, this is Blake, h-he's my fiance." kinakabahang sabi ko. Kita naman sa mga ni Mama ang disbelief sa sinabi ko.
"I'm sorry?! Fiance?!" gulat nitong sabi.
"Alam ko po na dapat ay sinabi ko po sainyo pero---"
"Is this some kind of joke, Reizl?" seryoso niyang tanong.
"Ma, calm down." mahina kong sabi.
"Paano? Kelan pa?!" tanong nito.
"It's---"
"Bakit hindi ko alam 'to?! Ni hindi ko nga alam na nakikipag-date kana tas magpapakita ka sa akin ngayon..Reizl!" sabi nito sa boses na pinipilit ang di magalit.
"Ma, it's a long story..." mahina kong sabi.
"We met at the hospital, and honestly? It was love at first sight." sabi ni Blake na kinalingon ko agad sa kaniya lalo na kay Mama.
My mother's face softens, and her cheeks tug upward as she looks between me.
"Talaga? Tell me more! No, tell me everything!" sabi nito na kinikilig.
"Uhm. He was looking for directions. After I helped him out, we got talking and---it was explosive, to say the least." sabi ko.
"Our chemistry was undeniable, so naturally, I asked her to move in right away." sabi ni Blake at kinilig nalang talaga si Mama na kinatawa ko ng mahina.
Wow, I think Blake has managed to convince my mother! I guess we aren't exactly lying.
"Hay, Reizl, I'm in shock!"
Ngumiti si Blake kay Mama. "I know it may seem fast, getting engaged so soon. But I know she's the woman I want to spend the rest of my life." sabi nito at napalingon ako sa kaniya. Blake pauses, and pulling me closer to him as he maintains eye contact with my mother. "And that's all I need to know." 𝑊𝑜𝑤!
Natawa naman si Mama, and raising her arms with a joyous expression. "Hay nako, mga bata nga naman."
"Alam mo ba, noong sinabi sa akin noon ni Reizl nang bata pa siya ay---"
