CHAPTER THIRTY SEVEN

Nasa ganoon kaming pwesto ng may kumatok at bumukas 'yon saka pumasok si Nurse Liliana para sabihin na inaantay kami ni Doctor Llanarez.

Doctor Llanarez has a no-nonsense expression when the two of me enter the room. “Dra. Montereal, it's been quite a week for you.” seryosong sabi nito at napalingon naman ako kay Blake. She must have heard about the incident with the car.

Ngumiti ako ng tipid. “It's been a lot. There's no denying it.” sabi ko saka huminga ng malalim.

“What about our baby? Is the baby okay, doc?” tanong ni Blake at pinagsalikop ni Doc ang kamay niya at tumango.

“Yeah, well, the baby is okay.” sabi nito na kinatango namin. “For now.” sabi nito na kinatitig ko dito at tiningnan naman niya ako.

“But as a medical professional yourself, alam kong alam mo na nakakasama sa pagbubuntis ang sobrang stress.” sabi nito at tumango ako.

“I know I need a break.” sabi ko saka tiningnan si Blake. “I understand that stress has negative effect.” sabi ko at tumango ito.

“Kaya kailangan mag-ingat ka, Dra. Montereal.” Blake squeezes my hand, a grim look on his face. “If you relax and have a good rest, wala kang dapat ipangamba. Now let's see how tough this little one's heartbeat is, shall we?” sabi nito na kinatango ko pero pinigilan ako ni Blake kaya napatingin ako sakaniya.

“Really? We can hear it now?” A smile spreading across his face and Doc Llanarez smile then pulls out the Doppler.

“Yes, ready for it?” sabi nito na kinatango ko. Blake takes my hand in his, his eyes sparkling with excitement. I've never seen Blake this excited about anything in my life. I'm very excited, too...

The doctor puts some warm gel on my belly before pressing the probe down onto my skin. She moves it around for a new minutes before landing on the heartbeat. Blake squeezes my hand. It's so cute how excited he is. Soon I hear a steady pulsing noise.

Woop-woop-woop-woop

A wide smile stretches across Blake's face, and he looks like he's on top of the world.

“That's it? T–That's the heartbeat?” tanong kaagad nito na kinatango ko sakaniya.

“Seems this little one has a strong one. That's great news, Mama.” nakangiti na sabi ni Doc at pagkasabi niya non ay diko mapigilan na maluha. Mama. I'm going to be someone's Mama. “Blake.. that's our baby.” sabi ko at tumango ito.

“Our baby. I love the sound of that.” Blake kisses my forehead and turns to the doctor.

“When can we see it on an ultrasound?” sabi nito na kinatawa ko ng mahina.

“Blake, it's like a grain of rice right now. There's nothing to see yet.” sabi ko hinaplos ang pisngi nito. Dra. Llanarez chuckles.

“Your wife is right. All in due time.” Blake pulls out his phone.

“Can you find the heartbeat again, doc? I want to record it.” nakangiti nitong sabi.

Dra. Llanarez happily obliges as Blake holds his phone out and records the sound.

“Well, there we have it. I would like to keep you here under observation for a few days if that's alright.” sabi nito.

“A few days? Why?” tanong ko at huminga siya ng malalim. “Well, if I'm being honest, you're safe here.” sabi nito saka niya tiningnan si Blake. “She cannot be stressed. At all. If she is, your baby is in danger. I'm sorry to be so blunt, but it's true.” ngumiti naman si Blake.

“I appreciate your honesty and advice, doc. I will do everything I can to ensure Isabella isn't stressed.” sabi nito na kinatango niya.

“Good. Listen to your husband, Dra. Montereal.” sabi niya na kinatango ko.
