Outside the large, imposing H-shaped building, she - Maki - strode down the path towards the doors taking potential students towards the entrance exam of UA, the top hero school in the country, a school that only the brave or the foolish would dare to try for a place.  It is widely known for having a 0.2% acceptance rate, so that meant the dreams of the majority of the kids who were attending along side her would be crushed by just a few test.  She knew her family we're probably laughing at her decision to even try, expecting her to fall flat on her face and be left in the dust.  She could even imagine them having a bet of how long she'd last, bets we're probably 5 or 10 minutes at the very most knowing them.  'They'll be throughly disappointed' she thought to herself, a small sneer appearing on her lips.

Maki squinted slightly as the sun reflected off the glass windows of the UA building and into the lenses of the purple square-rimmed glasses she hated and only wore out of necessity, she wasn't short or long sighted in any way, they were just imbued with a quirk that helped enhance her vision; one of the many items she had use to make up for her lack of a quirk.  Annoyed, she took them off and continued on her way towards the entrance exam, occasionally sparing glances towards the other examinees who were attending with her, one of them somehow managed to trip over his own feet and was only saved from total humiliation by a girl who used what appeared to be a gravity manipulation quirk to halt his descent.  She - Maki - rolled her eyes at the scene she was passing as he began to freak out and wildly flail his arms and legs all over the place before being released.  To her, he seemed to be a push over and would crumble under the pressure; not worth bothering herself with.

After the written exam, Maki was lead to a large auditorium with seats facing a large screen that was currently turned off. She sat down in one of the free spaces, placed her weapons bag on the floor with a 'thud', crossed her legs and rested her head on her hand, wanting to get this over with. Eventually, the lights were turned down and the screen flickered on, revealing the pro hero - Present Mic - who was going to give the explanation of the written exam and the practical exam.

"What's up" he exclaimed in a loud boisterous voice "UA candidates, thanks for tuning in to me, you school DJ. COME ON AND LET HEAR YA!!!"
He craned his ear but to his obvious disappointment, he was only met with 'silence'.
"Keeping it mellow huh, that's fine I'll just skip straight to the main show, let's talk about how this practical exam gonna go down, okay?!" the DJ hero continued after quickly getting over his failed attempt to raise the hype and regaining his original bravado.
"ARE YOU READYYY??!!"
Again, he was met with 'silence'.
She - Maki - was quickly starting to get annoyed with voice hero's antics, not mention, she could faintly her someone fanboying him and the other teachers. 'Could they just get this over with?!' She yelled in her head.
"Like your applications say, today you rockin' boys and girls will be conducting a ten-minute mock battles in super-hit urban settings"
She seemed to have gotten her wish.
"Gear you eyes my friends, after I drop the mic here you'll head to your specified battle centre, sound good?"
She looked at her card, Battle centre D, hopefully she won't have too much competition.
"Okay, okay, let's check out your targets, there are three types of faux villains villains in every battle centre, you'll earn points based on their level of difficulty so better choose wisely. Your goal in this trial is to use your quirk to raise your points by shredding theses faux villains like mid-song guitar solo"
"I already knew that" she thought. She was unwilling to admit that she knew a lot about hero society due to her family's level of influence in it. Unfortunately for her, that also meant they would use that influence to do everything in their power to get in the way of her attempts to get her hero license and her promotion in the hero charts. Most pro heroes become high ranking due to popularity rather than ability anyway.
"But check it" Present Mic continued "make sure you keep up things heroic, attacking other examinees is a UA 'no,no' ya dig!"
'How annoying' she thought. Maki wasn't that concerned with being 'heroic' as long as she accomplished her goal but she understood why it was important.
Suddenly one of the examinees rose from his seat,
"Excuse me sir but I have a question"
"Hit me!" Mic exclaimed
A spotlight suddenly turned on, illuminating a ridged, well groomed boy who had the typical looks of a stuck-up, upper class kid. She - Maki - tuned him out as he went on in a rant about something on the print-out or whatever. Only when Present Mic answered that there was a fourth faux villain that wasn't worth any points, she began to listen again. He finished by reciting the school motto before sending them on their way to their potential success or failure.

Many of the examinees were staring at her. She could feel their eyes on her. Probably because of the weapon she was holding, a naginata pole arm that was imbued with a lightening quirk which made it a weapon any warrior would want to carry into battle, especially in a fake city. She slid her hands along the smooth black surface, looking down at the gold rings and red cloth tied at the bottom, the blade at the opposite end near her face. These weapons have been one of the main things that have allowed her to come this far - along with her immense physical prowess. Without them, it would be even harder to become a pro-hero; some enemies just won't go down without quirks, something she wasn't born with.

The same couldn't be said with the other kids surrounding her, who were gaping at the fake city that stood before them. They were mainly wearing tracksuits and other clothes that were manoeuvrable, she - Maki - was wearing the clothes she normally wore for training: a purple tracksuit, a black jersey and leggings with tan shorts over them, along with a pair of plain black sneakers that were comfortable to move in. She had also put her glasses back on, she'd need them for this. The gate then started to open, revealing the place were their futures would be decided-
"Start!!!"
Wait what?
"What's wrong? There's no countdown in a real fight, go, go, go!!!" Yelled Present Mic who could now be seen on top of a watchtower.
'This is it' Maki thought as she sped off ahead of the other examinees 'it's all or nothing!'
