The next few fights of the first round went by.  Ashido beat Aoyama, Tokoyami beat Momo, it looked as if she was crushed by such a quirk defeat, Kirishima and Tetsutetsu fought to draw and Bakugo beat Uraraka.  During the last fight, the crowd started booing Bakugo for being so ruthless in his attacks against a girl, they were silenced by Aizawa.  Maki was very grateful for that, her own family were very misogynistic and women usually weren't even allowed to train with their quirks.  Discriminating against people because of gender was something that really ticked her off.  Kirishima and Tetsutetsu had an arm wrestling match to determine who was going through to the next round, eventually Kirishima won.

The second round began with Midoriya engaging of a battle of endurance against Todoroki and something exciting happened.  Todoroki used his fire for the first time and eventually he defeated Midoriya.  Next it was her against the vine girl Shiozaki. 
"THE SECOND MATCH OF THE FIRST ROUND IS ABOUT TO BEGIN!!! FIRST, WILL SHE BE ABLE TO FOLLOW UP WITH HER ONE PUNCH VICTORY IN THE FIRST ROOM ROUND? FROM THE HERO COURSE IT'S MAKI ZENIN!!! VERSUS, THE GIRL WHI WANTS TO BE A HERO FOR ALL THE RIGHT REASONS, ALSO FROM THE HERO COURSE IT'S IBARA SHIOZAKI!!!"  Mic announced, clearly not wanting to get scolded by the girl again.
"I wish you the best of luck" Shiozaki humbly said to her opponent
"You're the one who's gonna need it" Maki retorted, getting her chosen quirk tool out behind her back.
"READY, START!!!"
As expected, Shiozaki went for a vine attack from a distance and hit appeared to have reached its target
"WOAH, HAS SHE STOLEN MAKI'S WIN?" Mic asked in surprise
"No, it's not over" Aizawa observed
Shiozaki looked on in shock as a floating sword with a hand-shaped hilt that was holding onto a jutte shaped dagger sliced it clean through her wall of vines while Maki appeared behind her, ready to push her out of bounds.  The vine girl tried to defend herself but to her horror found that she couldn't use her quirk and was shoved out of bounds.
"MAKI ZENIN HAS WON AGAIN AND ADVANCES TO THE SEMI FINALS!" Midnight announced as Maki retrieved her quirk tools and said to her defeated opponent,
"You're pretty tough to force me to use the most powerful tool in my arsenal."  At this Shiozaki's face lit up,
"Good match" she said as Maki strode off the stage.

Tokoyami won against Ashido and Bakugo managed to win against Kirishima.  This meant Maki was up against Todoroki next and if she beat him, she'd advance to the final.
'I have to win this!' She declared to herself.

Eventually, her match came and she and Todoroki walked out confidently onto the stage, equally determined to come out on top.
"READY, START!!!"
Todoroki immediately attacked with his ice as Maki expected, she'd noticed they were alike in more ways than one.  One way was they both preferred to crush their opponents with brute force.  Maki responded in kind by pulling out the Playful Cloud and smashing the ice in seconds.
"SHE CRUSHED HIS ICE IN SECONDS, WHAT'S WITH THAT WEAPON?!" Mic yelled flabbergasted
This caused Todoroki to become annoyed, unlike Midoriya, Maki was perfectly capable of engaging in a battle of endurance and she didn't need to break her bones to do it.  If the fight continued this way she'd win, so he decided to separate her from her quirk tool bag as soon as possible so she couldn't get out anymore.  He lured her closer with several other ice attacks and as she went for a swing at his torso he managed to jump back and freeze part of the Playful Cloud, causing Maki to jump back and gain some distance.  Todoroki went for the opportunity and unleashed a huge ice wall to separate her from her bag.
"TODOROKI HAS SEPARATED HIS OPPONENT FROM HER WEAPON BAG, SHE ONLY HAS THE ONE IN HANDS!!!" The pound commentator pointed out excitedly.
Unfazed by this development, Maki just shrugged the ice of the weapon and made another charge for him.  He responded by using his giant ice wall but Maki put all her weight and force behind one swing shattered the entire giant structure, causing a shockwave at the force of blow.
"WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT!!!  SHE DESTROYED THE GIANT ICE WALL BEFORE IT COULD EVEN REACH HER, SHE COULD ACTUALLY WIN THIS!!!"

"You not gonna use your fire again?" Maki asked "it'll give ya a better chance against me"
"I can't use his quirk again with him watching me" the boy said, venom in his voice.
"You mean your old man, Endeavour?" She asked, a grin spreading on her face at this new piece information. "Looks like we're both spiteful against our families, only difference is you seem to be the pride of yours and and I'm the shame of mine."  The comment caused a surprised look to appear on Todoroki's face, he was shocked that he and his opponent had so much in common.
"If you're resolute in your decision to not use it now, then get stronger until you can.  For now, let's settle this with one strike, okay?" Maki said as she got into a stance, ready for whatever attack was to come.  Todoroki responded in kind and they kicked off at the same time.
'So, he's gonna try and freeze me up close huh?' She though, noticing his behaviour.  He went freeze the weapon to her hands but the force of the blow against his chest shattered the ice and sent him flying and crashing into the wall hard.
"TODOROKI IS OUT OF BOUNDS, MAKI ZENIN ADVANCES TO THE FINAL!" Midnight declares
