The Police Station in Kyushu wasn't nearly as impressive as the ones in the movies. It was dreary, dark and stank like leftovers Chinese food. Not shiny, polished medals and trophies sitting on shelves with people wearing suits talking to each other, but then again this wasn't the FBI. The people there could even drag their eyes open and stay awake for more than fifteen minutes. Maki was sure that she could slip past everyone, run through the front door and slip into the night like a shadow in search of darkness. Nobody would notice or bother if she was there or not. The lieutenant was sat at his desk in the cluttered office, when Maki walked in.
"Maki Zenin, we were just about to close the case." He said after looking up from his laptop. "Everything's conclusive - it was an unfortunate accident. I'm closing it as soon as Yamamoto fills out her part of the paperwork."
"I-" The lieutenant raised his hand, cutting her off.
"Maki, there's nothing else to look into. We've got to draw the line somewhere."
She let out an annoyed huff before begrudgingly saying, "I understand."
She'd need to by some time, then...
"I'd like to have a word with Yamamoto. Is she down there?" She quickly asked. The lieutenant nodded.
"Yes, I'll be with you shortly."

As soon as his eyes drifted back down to his laptop, Maki flew out the door, down the stairs and into the forensics department in the basement of the building.
A woman looked up from a microscope, her pink eyes locking onto the green-haired girl who had just arrived.
"Yamamoto, how can I help you?  We don't have much time left." Maki asked getting straight to the point.  The woman's pink eyes shone with understanding.
"Looks like you've already met with Kishi." She deduced before taking a moment to blow some stray hair out of her face, the rest tied up in the long braid.
Maki let out a sigh, "Yes, and I can't say I'm surprised.  So there's no time to waste."
Yamamoto's eyes went back down to the microphone grasped in her gloved hands.
"I'm still working on the fingerprints."
"Did you managed to open the scratched-up lockbox Kishi brought in earlier?"
The woman's head shook, "I didn't."
"Well, where is it?"
"Here, in this cabinet." Yamamoto replied, gesturing towards said cabinet on the left side of the room.  "The key should be there somewhere."
"Okay, keep working on those fingerprints.  I've got it."

After a good few minutes of rummaging through the assortment of items cluttered on the wooden desk, Maki emerged triumphant with the key. The metal felt cold in her bandage-wrapped hands as she slotted the key into the matching hole in the white cabinet, twisting it before yanking the door open. Hazel eyes locked onto the scratched lockbox like it was piece of long lost treasure, a smirk spreading across the girl's face.
"Now for the fun part." She said to herself as she fished through the pockets of her dark blue jacket to find her new lock picking set.
(Being intimidating sure had its advantages.)
Placing the lockbox on the closest table, Maki unfurled her new lock picks as she carefully examined her inanimate prey. Taking out her probe, she deftly inserted it into the lock and pressed up, pausing for only a few seconds before pulling the tool out and counting the clicks.
"Six pins." She whispered to herself. Placing the probe back into the roll, she pulled out her favourite hook pick. The seconds ticked by, punctuated by sharp clicks coming from the lock as the pins lifted into position. Each click bringing her closer to her goal, but also closer to the lieutenant arriving to close the case.
"Plenty of time." She hissed to herself. The clock on the wall of the lab told another story which Maki tried desperately to ignore. The shear line clicked as the lock rested on the side bar... one more step to go. Maki traded her hook for her custom-notched pick and began slowly the pins into position.
Click.
The lock, finally released, turned smoothly and the bolt retracted from the frame with a satisfying clack. This was also the same moment the sharp click of boot heels echoed down the stairs into the forensics lab. Turning her head, Maki's bespectacled gaze met the stern gaze of lieutenant Kishi.
"Any progress?" He asked as Maki handed the metal box to Yamamoto.
"I've just cracked the lockbox and we were about to see what is inside." Maki informed before placing a tentative hand on the lid and lifting it open with a ear-piercing squeak.
The three occupants of the forensics lab gasped almost simultaneously at what they were met with.
