The day of the sports festival eventually arrived, the stakes were even higher for those in the hero course because Bakugo caused the other classes to declare war on Class A. Turns out that if those that are in different courses do well enough then they can be transferred into the hero course, which people would have to be transferred out. Everyone was in their class waiting rooms and were really nervous. This event was televised nationally and what they did would be judged by everyone in the country.
"Everyone, it's time line up hand head out to the field!" Ida ordered, everyone starting walking out of the tunnel and into the sunlight where they could hear the roaring of the crowd, see the news reporters and photographers lined around the side, smell the excitement and anticipation in the air and feel the tension in the air. Soon the competition started emerging, the other hero course class 1B that didn't have as much attention as their class but had to be taken seriously; the general studies classes, where most students who didn't make it into the hero course ended up, they needed to be taken seriously as well; finally there was support course and the business course, they were less serious threats. The referee them made her entrance, the R-rated hero: Midnight, who famed for being flirtatious and playful. Her costume said it all, she looked like a dominatrix.
She then asked Bakugo to make the player's pledge, he was going say something that would dig his own grave.
"I pledge to win" he bluntly said into the microphone, earning himself boos and hisses from the other classes.
"Without further ado" Midnight announced "it's time for us to get started. The first game, this is where you begin feeling the pain, the first fateful game of the festival" at her announcement a screen appeared with a spinning slot wheel "what could it be?" Midnight added to increase they hype before it stopped on obstacle race. The woman explained that it's one lap around the stadium where anything goes as long as the players stay on the track."Start!"
Everyone began running towards the doorway of the stadium.
"AND WE'RE OFF TO A RACING START! HOW ABOUT SOME COLOUR COMMENTARY MUMMY MAN!" Present Mic yelled in the commentator's room with Aizawa sat beside him.
"How did you talk me into this?" He asked
"WHAT SHOULD WE BE PAYING ATTENTION TO IN THE EARLY STAGES OF THE RACE?" Mic asked the other teacher
"The doorway" he bluntly repliedAll of the students were ignoring them as they became packed like a tin of sardines in the doorway, all them pushing and shoving where they could, there was barely any space to breathe. Suddenly they all felt an icy chill around their ankles.
'Todoroki's ice quirk!' Maki realised as she quickly clambered onto the other students shoulders to give her leverage about the ice before she became trapped and launched herself off them in order to catch up with the boy who was speeding ahead. It seemed many other people had the same idea because they were also using their quirks or gadgets to launch themselves above Todoroki's ice. To prevent herself from slipping like many of the others were, Maki stomped heavily as she ran which broke the ice and gave her stable footing. This tactic allowed her to speed ahead of most of the others."LOOKS LIKE CLASS A'S MAKI ZENIN IS HOT ON TODOROKI'S HEELS!" Mic yelled excitedly at the girl's progress. The quickly ran into the first obstacle though, it was what their loud commentator called 'the Robo Inferno', it was basically a bunch of the robots they encountered in the entrance exam. The stronger students just plopped through them, Maki sliced through their arms using the Ratio cleaver she used at USJ and continued running to catch up.
The second obstacle was slightly more difficult, it was a large canyon with type ropes that they had to manure across without falling. It was obvious from its name: 'The Fall'. Maki just used her immense agility to cross them at a full sprint. Finally there was a minefield, the mines weren't very powerful but still had quite a bit of power, everyone slowed down for this obstacle because they had to watch their steps. Maki even had to think for a moment before coming up with a plan, she threw some Kunai knives into the ground to test were the mines were and where they didn't explode, she would use as a foothold to launch herself in long leaps across the minefield. Even though this got her further than most people it was time consuming and she lagged behind a little bit. It did get her far enough to start catching up the leading first years, Todoroki and Bakugo.
What neither of them expected was for Midoriya to use a land mine attached to leg of one of the defeated robots to propel himself ahead of them, this caused Maki to make wider leaps and spins through the air in attempts to gain more momentum and catch up with the new first place. However, Midoriya then slammed the robot leg into on of the buried land mines and launched himself even further ahead! Once the three of them had reached the end of the mine field, Maki, Todoroki and Bakugo accelerated in order to try and catch up with Midoriya. None of them were concentrating on what the commentators were saying. Thankfully because of her better raw physical abilities, Maki was able to overtake Bakugo, then Todoroki and started to close in on Midoriya. Unfortunately, he was just too far ahead and he won the race. Maki ended up second, which in itself was pretty good, especially against some of the quirks her opponents had. It was still frustrating though because she could tell that Midoriya had gotten first place due to tricks and luck rather than skill.
'I'll get you next time' she declared in her head, glaring at the back of Midoriya's head.
