Patrol was tense.
Sure, it was always tense because one never knows what could happen. This time, however, they had a better idea than normal of what could happen; this made it even more tense. While Hawks was flying overhead, Maki and Tokoyami were staying close behind him, their eyes darting everywhere, always checking behind them. It was worse than any training session. Especially since the conditions of training were always strictly controlled. Their current conditions were more volatile making it harder to predict what would happen.
"Look, I get why the villain group would be targeting Hawks but why the religious group?" Tokoyami asked her, looking back over his shoulder as he hopped from lamppost to lamppost at his female classmate who was running behind him on the ground.
"Given the fact that he didn't answer, I'd guess that he got involved with them on the orders of the Safety Commission. That organisation doesn't always use methods that would be considered morally acceptable to maintain the peace of the general public." Maki replied. As they continued their conversation, overhead, Hawks was sending out feathers to keep an eye on his surroundings. He was very good at acting like he wasn't paying attention when he actually was. He had kept a few feathers on his two mentees on the ground to make sure he knew where they were, however, it also meant he could hear every word they were saying.
'Maki's smart to have figured that much out. She was a member of one of the Big Three Families, so I guess it's a given she knows more about how this society functions than most people. They have so much influence and political prominence in Japan. They're in contact with the Japanese government along with the Safety Commission and have been key in establishing the memorandum regarding the obligations of pro-heroes. The head of the Safety Commission is appointed by the Prime Minister based on nominations from the Big Three Families. The headteachers of hero schools like UA, Shiketsu, Ketsubutsu etc. are appointed by the head of Safety Commission also based on nominations from the Big Three Families. The only problem is they're dead set in their status and traditions and aren't very open to change. Anyway, I can't let Maki find out more than she already has. If she did, the consequences would be-'Before he could finish his train of thought, he felt something through one of his feathers as he was passing a building. He quickly veered to the left in order to escape the blast of the explosive device, getting out of its radius in the nick of time. The noise caused all the civilians down bellow to look up, including the work study students, who took the explosion as the signal to get ready for action. Tokoyami summoned Dark Shadow and Maki retrieved her naginata quirk tool. Back in the air, Hawks could sense through the feathers he's sent through the smoke that the culprit was a member of Q.
"It's Q! It looks like there's only two of them in the area! I'll deal with this one, you two take care of the other!" Hawks instructed into the earpiece before flying into the smoke out of sight.
"Are you sure he'll be okay?" Tokoyami asked nervously,
"I think he'll be fine." Maki reassured moments before yelling at Dark Shadow to block the barrage of incoming knives. The shadowy bird was able to swat the projectiles aside with his giant hands. The glared at the villain who was responsible, who was approaching them. He was wearing a uniform that consisted of a white Breton hat that had a dark colored bill and a 'Q' on the front of it, a mask that covered his mouth and nose, a double breast suit with a cape that had the ends of it attached to the ends of the sleeves, a dark button down shirt under the suit, a light colored tie, a dark belt around his waist, dark colored trousers and dark colored boots. That alone was enough to tell them of his affiliation.
"Better than I expected." He said, a mocking tone in his voice as her clapped his hands. "You two are from UA right, I saw you two in the Sports Festival, this will be easy."
"Really?" Maki taunted back, a challenging look in her hazel eyes. "That's what everyone at the licensing exam thought."
"You should chose your words wisely otherwise they could turn out to be your undoing." Tokoyami added, activating Black Abyss.
"Damn brats!" The Q villain hissed from under his mask.——————————————
Elsewhere, inside a large building a few metres away from the chaos, two men were watching the smoke rising from the building opposite. One, dressed in a brown business suit with a thin moustache smoking a cigarette addressed the other.
"The Start Religious Group doesn't have the power to fight against pro-heroes but they can pay very well. How about it Zenin? How does a Public Safety Commission hero assassination sound to you?"
The other man tilted his head to the side to look at him. He wore casual attire consisting of a long-sleeved black shirt and matching black trousers with sandals. He had short black hair, dark blue eyes and a noticeable scar on the corner of his right lip. His build was very muscular.
"I'm not a Zenin anymore, I took my wife's name. It's Fushiguro now. But sure, count me in on all the fun."
