The day of the final preparations began and to everyones suprise, it was cold and cloudy. Almost depressing.
How could the weather tell what was going to happen?
Hawks got ready like he would for a patrol together with another big group of heros, he stretched and drank water when he was approached by none other than Eraserhead.
"You're aware of your position, right?" the stoeic hero put a hand on his shoulder, eying him with a stern look on his face.
Normally he'd joke around but the tension was so thick you'd have to get a giant pair of scissors to cut it. It was better to keep cool and shut up. So he said "Yeah, I'll be up against All for one because of my affair or whatever you call it." Hawks rolled his eyes as he said that, making Eraserhead sigh.
"Yes, that too. Plus your quirk is weak against fire anyway, it's only for your protection Hawks." Yea, of course.
Hawks shook off his hand and continued with a big stretch down to touch the ground, actually he was glad to not be in the fraction up against Dabi. He couldn't harm him anyway.
Ouch, I think I overstretched there?
Eraser silently watched Hawks stretching and started doing it too, he can't fight with an eye and a leg missing but he can use his quirk as best as he can. So he just warmed up like the rest of the group and thought about possible outcomes of the day.
There was one fraction for every main member of the paranormal liberation front, and Hawks and Endeavor would be the main heros facing the demon lord himself.
Not saying I'm scared but this is going to be my end I suppose, I should go see mom one more time...
So he snuck away from the group, they still had time? The winged hero dissappeared from the woods and quickly flew out the forest. He didn't realize he was being followed up until he landed and was pulled back by his hand.
"Where do you think you're going?" it was Eraser again who angrily held his wrist uncomfortably tight. Who does he think he is? Hawks started fuming inside and slapped Erasers hand away just as angry yelling "Why does it matter to you, I'll be back before the mission starts!"
The tension between then has been thick ever since the interrogation. The blonde knew Aizawa had every right to distrust him but still.
"I just want to visit someone before I probably get to see god by tonight." he continued, his voice filled with sarcasm. Aizawa still did not budge and kept his eyes on the winged hero. Not in a million years would he let Hawks run off by himself now.
"I'll go with you, lead the way." "Ugh, fine."
Hawks instinctively rolled his eyes and walked away, the closer they got to UA the more Eraser let his guard down. He really thought Hawks would walk off to see Dabi.
"You're going to UA?" he looked around as they reached the school grounds.
Hawks didn't bother to answer and so they got through security and hurried to one of the shelter houses. On the way it began to rain and soaked both of them to the bone. Ugh, right now really? Hawks grit his teeth, first Eraser annoyed him and now the stupid weather too.
"Someone who's in shelter here i see." "Just shut up already." the blonde snapped at him and turned away to knock at the door.
She should be here, I hope.
With his nerves on edge the door opened and the woman with blonde curly hair basically jumped him. The eyes around her suspiciously stared at Eraserhead who now steps back to let them be. God, this must be a relative of his. What an idiot I am.
"Keigo, thank goodness you're here. I'm worried..." her weak voice rang Hawks ears and the stress lifted off his shoulders. Like magic. Mom's magic.
I hope nothing happens to mom, I didn't even get the chance to build a proper relationship with her yet. "Yea, remember the name thing mom?" he started off and immediately she backs off and puts her hands together apologetically. "Sorry, I didn't mean to..."
And Aizawa quietly sighs at their awkward encounter. It's his mother, God I really should apologize.
"I just wanted to say sorry for not spending more time with you, let's go on little adventures together once this is over alright?" Hawks softly smiled at her, causing the old woman to look at him with fondness. "It's okay, I understand. Your job is dangerous and you didn't want anyone to harm me."
She understands?
Hawks let out a big sigh, his wings dropping down and grazing the floor. "It'll be diffrent, I'll fight off our enemy and then I'll go for dad. He won't even get close to you I promise." he didn't think he could keep this promise, but he had to reassure her somehow.
They talked for a few minutes until Aizawa tapped his shoulder, telling him it was time to go.
So soon already? Hawks took a step back getting ready to leave but his body stopped, why would he go without another hug? Hugs were important!
So he turned back and closed his arms around her one more time, not caring about how wet his hero costume was. She didn't seem to mind either. All she was thinking was how proud she's of her son, to have worked so hard not to become like his father.
"Go and be safe, I'll be rooting for you Keigo." I guess she'll never learn, haha.
Once Hawks and Aizawa were on the way again the rain had turned down a notch, leaving them in the silence of the depressing moment. "Sorry, I put my nose into your buissnes again." the underground hero didn't dare to look up.
"Heh, it's fine. You're a sceptic after all."
Again it was just quiet when they reentered the forest. "Keigo, right?" He started off and Hawks lips formed to a fine line. He murmured "Yeah, that's me. She always forgets to not say my name, please don't go around telling people alright?"
"I won't tell." the black haired man straighted his back and so the conversation was over.
It was almost time.
