I bite into my apple as I leave the living room. I walk past the front door and toward the stairs when I hear a creaking come from outside. My brows furrow, and I pull out my pocket knife. I quietly open the front door and peer out. I slowly step outside and glance around.
Suddenly, Stiles drops down from the porch roof, and I cry out in shock. Stiles does the same thing, and once we both calm down, I huff. "Stiles, what the hell are you doing?" I question.
"Scott wasn't answering his phone," Stiles shrugs. "Why do you have a knife? Were you gonna stab me?!"
"If you were an intruder, yeah," I defend as I close my knife and tuck it back into my pocket.
"Is Scott home?"
"It's the middle of the night... Yeah, he's home," I nod.
"Can you tell him I'm out here?"
"Why don't you just come in?" I suggest.
"Oh... Yeah. Right."
He drops down from the roof, and I peer over the railing. He pops up, and I jump back. He hoists himself over the railing, and I roll my eyes. He follows me inside and up the stairs. I go to knock on Scott's door when Stiles just barges right in. Scott looks up from his lacrosse stick and his brows furrow. "Stiles, what are you doing here?" Scott asks.
Stiles starts to reply, but he stops himself. He slowly looks over at me, and I raise a brow. "Do you mind? This is kind of private," Stiles states.
"I don't care. You're not gonna sneak around our house in the middle of the night, scare the shit out of me, and then, barge into my brother's room and expect me to not wonder why the hell you're here," I respond.
Stiles huffs. "Fine." He directs his attention to Scott. "I know it's late, but you gotta hear this. I saw my dad leave 20 minutes ago. Dispatch called. They're bringing in every officer from the Beacon Department and even state police."
"For what?" I ask.
"Two joggers found a body in the woods."
"A dead body?" Scott questions.
"No, a body of water. Yes, dumb-ass, a dead body," Stiles rolls his eyes.
"Yeah mean like, murdered?"
"Nobody knows yet. Just that it was a girl, probably in her 20s," Stiles shrugs.
"Hold on, if they found the body, then what are they looking for?" I point out.
"That's the best part. They only found half," Stiles says. "That's why I'm here... We're going."
I scoff. "The hell you are."
Stiles looks over at me. "Cassie, come on," Stiles whines.
"No! You two are not going out in the middle of the night to look for the other half of a body," I exclaim.
"I want to try to find the other half before the sheriff's department does," Stiles admits.
"That's so morbid. Why?!"
"I don't know!"
"We won't be gone that long, I promise," Scott assures me.
"Scott--"
"Please," Stiles begs.
I groan. "Fine. Whatever, you weirdos, but if you two get caught and I get blamed for letting you go, you're dead," I warn.
"Yes, Ma'am," Stiles nods making me roll my eyes.
"Just be careful and don't forget your inhaler, Scott."
Scott reaches into his pocket and pulls it out. "I always have it."
