As I'm sitting on the couch, the front door opens. I jump up and rush out of the living room to see Scott walking in. "Where the hell have you been? It's been hours!" I exclaim.
"I know. I'm sorry," Scott sighs as he pushes the door shut. He inhales sharply, and my brows furrow.
"What happened? Are you okay?" I ask.
"I got bit by something," he admits.
"Bit? By what?"
"It was pretty dark, but I'm pretty sure it was a wolf," he responds.
"Uh... Scott, it couldn't have been a wolf," I shake my head.
"Why?"
"Because California doesn't have wolves," I state.
"Well, I heard a wolf howling."
"It had to have been something else," I shrug. "Now, let's see this bite." He lifts his shirt, and my eyes widen. I examine the large, bloody bite that create a rough circle around his stomach. The bite is just below his ribs and just above his waistline. "Jesus. You might need stitches."
"That would mean if I have to go to the hospital, and you know I can't do that," he points out.
"Scott--"
"Cassie, Mom will know I snuck out last night. I can't go to the hospital."
I sigh. "I know... All right. Just take a seat on the couch, and I'll clean it up."

I approach Scott's door and knock. "Scott?" I call out. There's no response. "Scott?" I repeat before knocking louder. I glance down at the time on my phone to see that it's almost 7:30.
Screw it.
I open his door to see him still fast asleep. I walk over to him, pull his pillow out from under his head, and hit him with it. He jumps up and squints at the bright light shining through the curtains. "Get up. I'm taking you to school," I state.
He looks up at me. "Why?"
"Because," I respond before leaving his room.
I head downstairs and into the kitchen. I open the cabinet and pull out a pack of Pop-Tarts. I put them in the toaster and lean against the counter.
Once the Pop-Tarts are done, I grab them both from the toaster. Scott walks around the corner, and I hold one of them out. "You're gonna be late. Let's go."
He takes the Pop-Tart and we head outside to my car.

"Mom called last night while you were gone and was asking if she could talk to you," I admit.
His eyes widen. "What'd you say?"
"I said you were asleep," I respond.
"And?"
"She asked me to wake you up, but I said you needed to get a good night's sleep before practice. She said I was right and that's it," I answer.
Scott sighs in relief. "Thanks."
"Yeah, you're welcome, but you do owe me for this," I state.
"I know," he nods.
"So, I know you got bit by... something last night, but what exactly happened?" I ask.
"Stiles and I got separated, and then, his dad caught him. I was trying to find my way back to the road when a herd of deer ran through the woods and at me. I... I lost my inhaler 'cause it was in my hand, so when I was looking for it... I found the body," Scott starts. "I freaked out and fell back, and that's when I saw... something. It looked like a wolf, and I tried to run, but it tackled me and bit me."
"Jesus... I knew I shouldn't have let you guys go out there," I shake my head. "Why didn't you call me?"
"I-- I didn't know if you were up, and I didn't want to wake you if you weren't."
"How considerate of you," I roll my eyes. "You said you lost your inhaler?"
"Yeah..."
"You know those cost an arm and a leg," I remind him.
"I know. I didn't mean to. After school, I'll go back out there to look for it," he assures me.
"I know you will 'cause I'm coming with you. We have to find your inhaler," I state.
I pull into the parking spot and both Scott and I hop out of my car. I lean against the hood as another car pulls into the spot next to me. I look over to see Jackson Whittemore, a student at Beacon Hills, stepping out of his car. His door skims the side of my car, and I raise a brow.
"Dude, watch the paintjob," Jackson warns.
"You first, asshole," I hiss with a glare. He rolls his eyes before walking off. "I feel sorry that you have to go to school with him."
"Yeah, me too."
