lowkey sad
not really lowkey
I cried.
Twenty-two months, or one year and ten months ago, Dean and Castiel started dating. They were (obviously) best friends for years, but they had always wondered what the other's lips felt like, what their reaction would be if a kiss was planted on said lips, how those muscles would feel against their skin... It was a long time coming, if they'd asked anyone, and they can't believe how oblivious they were.
The past month or so, Cas has been really struggling with his angelic powers. They'd gone all out of wack and Cas' grace was somewhat uncontrollable. Dean couldn't take Cas' lies and excuses any longer, so one night, after they'd had some fun, Dean asked him. "Cas, baby, please tell me what's going on with you." Dean asked, softly, running his fingers along Cas' wings, memorizing every detail.
"Stop worrying, Dean. I'll be fine." Cas said, avoiding Dean's glare.
"Castiel, tell me what's going on. I want to help." Dean said in a very serious tone. He just wanted Cas to be okay again.
"There's nothing that'll make it better." Cas sighed. Dean nodded slowly, that's the most out of Cas he had gotten so far. He had no idea what was going on.
"Talk to me, baby, please." Dean said as he pulled Cas in closer, kissing his forehead.
"It's nothing..." Cas said, not wanting to admit the truth. He didn't want Dean to feel at fault, and knowing the hunter, he would.
"Cas." Dean sighed, silently begging Cas to let him in. He just wanted to help, weather or not it was possible.
"Fine." Cas said, sitting up. Dean sat up with him, but frowned as Cas faced away from Dean. "It's just... It's hard to talk about." Cas said, putting his head in his hands. Dean sat behind Cas, wrapping his arms around Cas' waist, and hooking his chin over Cas' wings and shoulder.
"I love you, you know that. You can talk to me about anything in the entire world and I'd be all ears." Dean said, honestly. He's gotten really good at listening to people since he started dating Cas. Cas liked to talk, especially to Dean, and Dean learned to love to listen, especially to Cas.
"I know." Cas said, taking a deep breath. He turned around, Dean keeping his arms around Cas' waist, and Cas opened his mouth to admit his problem. Right as he did, though, all that came out was a sob. Dean's eyes went wide in concern, and he pulled Cas' head to his chest, hugging him tightly. "Dean-" Cas cried. "I don't- I don't know w-what to do. I'm s-scared." Cas sobbed into Dean's chest.
Dean held Cas like he never had before. He wanted all of this to be over, for Cas to be happy again, for whatever was going on, to stop. "Cas, angel, breathe. It'll all be okay." Dean said, hoping that was the case. He just wanted his Cas back.
Cas pulled back from Dean's chest, sniffling and wiping away his tears. "Wh-when an angel..." Cas started, pausing to take a deep breath. "When an angel falls in love with a human, they start to chance." Cas said, Dean's eyes going wide, realizing that this is because of him. "Since I fell in love with you, I've slowly been changing. I'm more and more human every day, and it scares the hell out of me." Cas admitted, making Dean pull him back into a hug.
"I... I didn't know that you'd... I'm sorry, Cas." Dean said, feeling tears run out of his eyes. Cas was losing his grace because of him.
"Don't be sorry, Dean. You didn't know, and either way, I was falling in love with you way before we got together. Nothing you did or could ever do will change that." Cas said, smiling into Dean's chest. "I just... humans have very little time here and I don't want to ever stop living like this, with you. It scares me." Cas said, making Dean pull Cas back from the hug.
