“To the ICU please, hurry up!” a male nurse yelled

“Let me get the doctor right away” the other nurse called

Doctor gazali it’s an emergency please, your attention is needed now” the nurse shouted as she barged in breathing so heavily

What’s wrong” Doc. Gazali asked curiously

Before the nurse said a word, doctor gazali rounded up the meeting and ran off to the emergency ward

Oh shit!” He murmured the moment he saw the patient in a convulsion

She’s epileptic doctor” the nurse spiels arranging all the necessary medications and equipment

Oh lord she’s already foaming at the mouth” the other nurse called to mind

Buccal midazolam” doctor gazali said giving out his hand to collect the injection, he opened her mouth and injected her in the buccal cavity (the side of the mouth between the cheek and the gum)

Rectal diazepam” he said and the nurse handed it to him in no time, he did it rectally (at the bottom)

After then, he stroked the levetiracetam injection alone and gave it to her along with other medicine to control partial-onset seizure.

And yes, she’s there still in a convulsion, which is rapid, causes uncontrollable shaking and limb movement

“although convulsions are common in epileptic seizure but why is she still shaking after the injection thou” the male nurse asked confusingly, scary as though he saw a ghost

“its like a focal onset seizure” the other nurse said

“well more like a focal onset aware seizure, since she’s somehow awake” doctor gazali said

“A VNS therapy now” he demanded

A small device was brought which I guess is the VNS therepy. It is a device which sends a mild pulses through a vagus nerves to areas in the brain in an effort to control seizure. It works to prevent seizure before they start and stops them when they do.

Well done everyone, well done, she’s now back to normal alhamdulillah” he said breathing heavily and walked out of the ward, and he walked out only to meet her guardians going back and forth.

D…doc…doctor is she alright? Is my kulthum alright” her mother cried out holding the edge of the doctor’s gown

Kulthum's father holds her arm and softly grabbed her hands and put it in to his.

She’s okay now but she needs to rest”

You know epilepsy seizures are triggered by stress sometimes anxiety and I definitely know kulthum won’t escape one of these

We were so worried to the extend doctor, thank you so much” kulthum's father murmured

It’s all Allah’s will sir, please if you don’t mind I would like to see you in my office” doctor gazali said
