Chapter thirty five

Life was weird, you know” kulthum said with her legs crossed while the BBC interviewer was just staring at her. She was genuinely amazed by her responses, she couldn’t imagine herself going through kulthum’s struggles

The interviewer adjusted as she brought the list card she has been holding up to her gaze and said

“my last question” she offered

“For the youth that are struggling with diseases. How will you address them and also console them” she said the last word while lowering the card to her knee level

Kulthum inhaled and reached out for the cup of tea and saucer that was in front of her, she lifted it to her mouth and had a sip, She peacefully looked back to the interviewer with a grin

“You see…” she halted then proceeded   “being diagnosed with a disease that comes from nowhere is really terrifying. It makes one to become depressed, unfaithful and even worse, blaming oneself. When I started to develop the epilepsy symptoms, I was horribly scared. Not scared of losing my life at any moment, however, scared of losing my friends, my social life in school and so forth. Nevertheless, the first day I began to have seizures and convulsions was the very first day that my mom told me something that made me embraced my condition as though was my heart. She said

“To know you is to love you, kulthum. And to know your condition is to love you in that very condition. I want you to know that you can see through the looking glass, even though not everyone has your vision. Not everyone understands that life is full of portals. That you can turn what you imagine into what you can touch. Now is the time to shake hands with your future self, to have blind faith that the life that’s been swirling around in your head is so close to being yours. I know you are scared. I know it’s hard to be sure when so few can see what you see. I know this transformation feels like a heavy leather coat when you’d prefer a light jacket. But the wait of it all will be worth it. I promise”

The room was in an absolute silence again as she nodded her head smiling then continued

“I know how it feels to be in a situation whereby the person you need so desperately is the same person that turned his back at you. But you see, in this life nothing is permanent and putting yourself and emotions first is the initial stage of mental recovery. To others it might just be a common disease but to the person bearing it, it wasn’t . It’s about struggling mentally, physically, emotionally and socially. I want people to know that those with health conditions are the strongest of mankind. And I also want them to know that when life gives you lemon…

“turn it to lemonade” both she and the interviewer laughed after saying that in unison.

The show was apparently to everyone’s liking and to express the most emotional part, all were amazed and swiftly moved by her yarn and words of encouragement.

It was like she surpassed the last level of mental health recovery that when she returned to katsina she couldn’t sleep and had to think in iteration. She’d brought her phone to her view when she heard a notification sound and suddenly began to grin from ear to ear. As expected, it was khalifa and his sweet soul. He have seen her interview with BBC and he couldn’t help but show his expression of praises.

Khalifa:

you rocked it, tiger! I love you with all my living organs. I would have said I can’t imagine life without you abbur it will be a total lie because I will try to live exactly like you. I know you know I love you, however, I want you to know how much I admire your zeal and capability.
