"Come on, Y/n- Dammit!" He cursed, struggling to catch you as you stumbled forward from his arms. "Fuckin' hell!"
"I didn't, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't......"
"I know, Y/n," He breathed, struggling to hold you up and grab his keys at the same time. "I know you didn't."
Your eyelids fluttered, your tears now dried leaving your cheeks and eyes swollen and red. "I didn't..." You whispered.
Fuyuhiko shook his head, clenching his jaw in frustration. "Shit!"He looked at you and sighed. "Hey, I'm gonna have to put you down for a minute, okay?"
"I didn't, I didn't, I didn't......"
"Okay, then..." He breathed. He gently lowered you to the ground, stumbling as he tried not to drop you in doing so.
He eventually got there, though, and turned away to unlock the cottage door.
It creaked open and he stuffed his keys back into the pocket of his pants. Looking at you, Fuyuhiko let out a breath. How in the world was he supposed to handle this situation?
You were in hysterics, repeating the same thing over and over again. Not to mention, you hardly took notice of him or anything else in your surroundings. So, he managed to get you from Jabberwock Park to the cottage, now what?
Get you inside, obviously. But what if you were still like this in the morning?
Fuyuhiko feared that all of this had pushed you to have a mental break. Of course, he knew that you already weren't exactly in the best state of mind, but you were also the only person in here other than Peko that kept him from losing his sanity.
And he'd be goddamned if you left you to die.
So, he leaned down, throwing one of your arms over his shoulder and using his free hand to pick you up from the bend of your knees.
"I didn't, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't......"
"I know.... I know..."
Kicking the door closed with his foot, and he laid you down onto the bed before letting his head fall back with a sigh.
Clenching his fist, he resisted the urge to curse and yell and throw stuff at the wall. You needed him right now.
Did he trust you? Not exactly. And he knew you'd be hurt if you knew that, but you forced it out of him. But as much as he didn't trust you, he felt something for you. Something he only ever felt for Peko before. And it was something that made him hurt at the thought of leaving you to die. Not being able to protect you.
You had finally stopped repeating the two words stuck in your mind for the past hour, and your eyelids had now begun to slowly droop.
Fuyuhiko sat down at the edge of the bed beside you, running a hand through your hair just as gently as he could.
"You have... no idea how sorry I am that I couldn't protect you from this bullshit..." He whispered.
Your breathing slowed and evened out, your mind slowly delving into unconsciousness.
Fuyuhiko shook his head. "I won't let it happen again."
You could have sworn he had said something else afterwards, but you couldn't much tell as you drifted off. All panicked thoughts from that day washing away as you melted into the touch of Fuyuhiko's hand.
He didn't leave you.
And that made a difference in itself.
