One in The Same

The door creaked ever so quietly as you entered the dining hall of the old building. Fuyuhiko would kill you if he knew what you were doing.

"Look at that...." A raspy voice chuckled, and you swirled around to see a tied Nagito lying on the floor. "First Hajime... Now you. Heh, this day just keeps getting better and I don't even deserve it!"

You took a deep breath, clenching your jaw as you stared at the white-haired boy. He had helped you around the first day, was so nice, helped introduce you, and let you know about the situation. Now... he's tied up in an old building and you're just staring at him from afar.

"Nagito..."

"Y/n."

Swallowing you took a step forward. "Did-"

"I guess you're here about what Monokuma let slip, huh?"

Your eyes widened and your breath hitched. ".... How.... How in the world did you know about that...?"

The corners of his mouth lifted into a slight smile. "I saw you, Y/n. I was gonna come see you but I changed my mind right as you walked out your door. I decided I was too trashy for you. Then I followed you on the way back."

"Oh..." You breathed. "I- Um... Did you....?"

"Yeah, I saw." He frowned. "The way he held you like that was-" he stopped himself, letting out a sigh. "Nevermind. I wouldn't be able to do that anyway."

You curled your arms around yourself, growing a bit uncomfortable by his words.

What was he getting at? You were fine with Fuyuhiko and that's the way things would stay. Hopefully. If Peko didn't kill you.

There was an uncomfortable silence. At this point you had forgotten what you had come here to ask.

Turning on your heel, you began to leave the room without a word.

"Wait!" Nagito abruptly called out.

You froze, your muscle tensing as you immediately started to regret coming here. Unsure of what Nagito might say in the coming moments, you squeezed your eyes shut.

There was another uncomfortable silence, and you had begun to think Nagito wasn't going to say anything. That is, until he did. "You're just like me..."

"What...?" You breathed, your eyes shooting back open. Your back was still turned to him, but you could feel his stare.

"I said... You're just like me."

"You're a fucking psychopath!"

"And you're not?"

You swivelled around to face him again, you're breathing fast and shaky.

He continued to speak. "Y/n, you got here the same way as the rest of us. Yet, you feel different, don't you?"

"S-stop talking..." You breathed. Everything inside of you was screaming at you to leave. But you couldn't bring your feet to move.

"You started off fine... Felt a connection with someone at first introduction," Nagito continued.

You closed your eyes. "Nagito, i'm n-not a psychopath!"

"You panicked when Monokuma didn't tell you where you're brother was-"

"Keep Ryoichi out of this!"

"You tried to kill someone on the second night on the island!"

"Shut up!"

Nagito took a deep breath and you finally opened your eyes. His smile was wavering, and his eyes were especially wide.

"... We're more alike than you think, Y/n..."

You didn't answer.

"But... I'm just a hopeless piece of trash, aren't I?" He chuckled. "It's okay though..."

"Nagito, you.... y-you..." You began. Your lip trembled and you felt your eyes begin to sting with tears as your hand clenched into a fist.

Was he right? Were you... just like him?

... Yeah. Yeah, you were.

"I am nothing like you, you crazy motherfucker!" You spat, turning on your heel and stomping your way out of the building.

But you knew one thing.

You were just like Nagito Komaeda.
