Morning Disagreements

Your eyes blinked open, serving you with the sight of Fuyuhiko's dimly lit cottage. The various dragon-themed decorations provided a slight sense of comfort. This cottage was all you really knew on this island. You had spent almost every night in here. In reality, it wasn't even just Fuyuhiko's cottage anymore. It was yours and Fuyuhiko's cottage.

Glancing around some more, you noticed the bright sunlight barely filtering in through the closed curtains. Fuyuhiko must have closed them last night. You weren't sure if he came back, you hadn't looked yet.

You hummed quietly, rolling onto your side to see luckily see him occupying his side of the bed. He was dishevelled, his white dress-shirt slightly unbuttoned at the top, but it seemed he couldn't bother to unbutton the rest. His tie was still on, albeit loose and almost completely untied, but it was still on nonetheless.

As you gazed at him, your arm instinctively moved to wrap around his mid-section as you scooted closer.

Letting your nails gently massage his head through the buzz of his hair.

He was tense- he had been since last night- but he eased into your touch even as he slept.

You couldn't help but wonder what he was doing awake last night. He said he had freaked out when he came back to the cottage and you weren't there- but why come back once, find you, tell you to go back, and then leave again?

You didn't understand. And the way he told you that he just 'couldn't sleep' was obviously a lie. Well- probably. Maybe he couldn't, but he was hiding something too. There was something he didn't want you knowing.

What it was, you had no clue. Did it have something to do with those pictures you found? You just didn't know, and it was eating you up inside.

You were dragged out of your thoughts when you heard a quiet hum beside you, with the feeling of Fuyuhiko shifting his position.

"What in the hell..." He muttered, his eyes blinking open slightly. He looked you, going silent for a moment before sighing and rolling over, out of your hold.

"Hey, what the fuck?" You ask.

"What?"

"Nothing, you're just a ray of sunshine and rainbows this morning," You respond sarcastically.

He shrugged, yawning as sat up, tugging on his tie. "Dunno what you're talkin' about, dumbass."

You scoffed, sitting up as well. "As if. You know exactly what I'm talking about. Why are you acting like a dick all of sudden?"

"I'm not acting like a dick, and you need to watch your goddamn language with me." Fuyuhiko sighed, getting up as he moved stiffly around the cottage.

"Bullshit. Is this about last night? What were you doing up last night?"

"I told you already. I couldn't fuckin' sleep."

"You're hiding something."

"Do I look like I'm hiding something, dipshit?"

"Actually, yes, you do. Now tell me."

He shook his, letting out an annoyed scoff as he tightened his tie and slid on his blazer. "I'm not hiding shit, Y/n."

"Yes you are, Kuzuryu."

He clenched his jaw, stopping his actions and looking at you with a cold gaze. "I told you not to call me that, motherfucker."

You raised a brow, standing up. "Then tell me what you're hiding."

"..." Fuyuhiko stayed silent for a while. "Fuck it. I guess you'll be calling me Kuzuryu for a while then."

"HAh!" You exclaimed, pointing a finger. "So you admit that you're hiding something from me!"

"Goddamn it, just leave it be already!" He snapped, opening a drawer and pulling out a large yellow envelope.

"No! And what the fuck is that for?"

"None of your goddamn business," he huffed, tucking it under his arm and turning around to leave.

"Hey!" You snapped. "You can't just do that, and then leave like nothing happened! Fuyuhiko, you're worrying me."

He stopped, his gaze softening a bit as you said that last part. "Y/n... I wish I could tell you, I really fucking do. But I can't."

"Why not?"

"Because then you'll be in even more danger, okay?"

You sighed, letting your arms fall to your sides. "... Just.... You're not gonna do anything, right?"

Fuyuhiko let out a long breath, setting the envelope down and stepping closer to you. His eyes met yours and he clenched his jaw, as if thinking of what to say.

"Fuyuhiko..." You repeat. "You're not gonna do anything, right?"

He shook his head after a moment. "No. No, I'm not gonna do shit to anyone. I just need to talk to a few people, okay?"

You nod slightly. "Yeah... hey, I-I know things are awkward right now, and you don't really trust me, but I need you to know that you can talk to me whenever, okay?"

He swallowed, nodding. "'kay then. We'll..... We'll, uh, talk about this shit later."

"Yeah... Yeah, later..." You respond, waving goodbye slightly as he grabbed the envelope again and left, leaving you to your lonesome.

But.... If he was so hell-bent on protecting you.... And he was your assigned babysitter basically... why in the world would he just leave you alone like this?

You shook your head. You were probably overthinking this.
