CHAPTER XXI

A sudden lighting strike shook Eva awake and jaw hurting from the wide yawn, she waited for the sound of running feet. She enjoyed the cuddles that lightning brought on, she almost wished that he would never get over the fear. A frown scrunched up her forehead and she ran her hand down her face. When the sound never came, she dragged herself to sit upright, curious. Slipping her feet into fluffy slippers and with difficulty moved the warm duvet off of her body. The cold air hit her bare skin and she held in a swear word by biting her lips. Running hands up and down her arms, she reminded herself to set the heating to a higher setting. Grabbing the silk sheet, she wrapped it around herself before passing across the landing. Pushing open the door she was prepared to be almost barrelled over but froze for a very different reason. He was naked! Her heart rate increased exponentially as she couldn't help but rake over his frame. She berated herself when she sighed disappointed at the sight of boxer shorts. How? Why the hell is he in her house, never mind in her son's room? She was about to march over and demand answers when she saw Dylan clutch at his arm tighter when the room lit up momentarily. Dylan settled back down, his forehead flattening in response to Nate shifting closer to Dylan's head.

She spotted sodden clothing haphazardly stuffed into a shopping bag at his feet which went so far as to explaining his current clothing situation. He must have stayed outside all this time...she tried to stop herself from feeling sorry for him and being guilty but it was a lost cause. He shifted slightly in his sleep, muscles flexing, and she noted just how uncomfortable he was – it was an endearing sight. He was as stunning as she remembered and as memories forced through the wall she had built, something clenched... down below. She barely held on to her restraint due to Dylan's presence and thank fuck for that, she thought. All she wanted was to lick every inch of his body that was laid out before her like a gift.

As she examined him further as her eyes adjusted, she found herself noting scars, new and old, some of which she had run her fingers along. It troubled her to think of how many fights he had gotten into as worry rose in her throat. She gulped it down, she had no right to be concerned. He was practically a stranger...apart from that night that is. Not to mention the past few months. She made to leave but hesitated and before she could think anymore, she pulled off the sheet and carefully covered his delicious body. Kissing Dylan's forehead goodnight, she halted in her tracks when eyes – mere inches away were bright and definitely open. They bored into her and made her catch her breath. He was so close – his lips were so close... Glancing away quickly from his lips just as they quirked up at the side

"Hi-" "I'm sorry-" they said at the same time, both hushed.

Sorry? What was he apologising for now? Yes she supposed she should be angry and scared that he was in her house, near her son without asking. But really he'd been far, far closer and she definitely hadn't been complaining then. The thought made her blush and squeeze her legs together as she could almost feel just how close he had been.

"I'm so incredibly sorry about a lot of things but most recently for coming into your home without permission," he sputtered earnestly pleading her to forgive him. "I know it's not an excuse but I couldn't say no," he continued sighing. She followed his eye sight as he smiled fondly at Dylan - at his son - and found she couldn't get any words out.

"I'll go as soon as its morning, it's just that I said I would stay. I know it wasn't my place but I just couldn't-"

"Say no..." at last words found her as she finished his sentence, non-judgmentally. "I have that problem frequently..."

"Please let me stay and explain," he pleaded quietly, not wanting to wake Dylan up from his slumber. "Please angel."

The endearment brought a shiver down her spine but she couldn't quite distinguish whether it was good or bad or worse a mixture of both.
