The New Year had a new meaning to it. I had many questions about if and what the kiss meant to Andy. Maybe it was just a kiss with no actual meaning behind it. I had no one to talk about it. I was a grown woman who probably fed more into it than Andy did. I mean come on, he was loved by thousands of people around the world. I was just a girl that made his acquaintance cause of Violet.
Work was extra busy. Violet's AA meetings were still going strong as well. She was so deep in her healing journey.
"And tell me why you two aren't together?" Violet asked me as we drove home from her AA meeting.
"Violet, shush," I told her.
"No, but seriously why aren't you guys like a couple yet? Like he kissed you, you guys flirt indirectly all the time," Violet told me.
"Wait what? We do not flirt at all," I told her.
She shook her head at me.
"Girl, come on you know the time at my art showcasing a while ago. He was totally smitten with you. You broke his heart not talking to him," Violet told me as we pulled up to get our weekly soda pop treat.
I rolled my eyes.
"Violet, I could not have broken his heart. There is no damn way I would break Andy Gibb's heart," I remarked as we pulled up to order.
"I'm telling you he likes you but he's afraid to give his heart away again. His talks with us at Betty Ford really showed that he was sensitive. Maybe you can help him," Violet told me after we ordered our sodas.
We got our sodas and we were on our way to her house.
"How could he not like you," was Violet's follow-up to the convo.
"I don't really know him, Violet," I told her as we turned on the street to her house.
"You don't know him?" Violet asked me.
"Yes," I replied.
"Girl I swear," she told me as we pulled up to the house.
"I'm telling you, Violet, there is nothing there. I will eat a can of sardines if we end up together okay? But until then, it's not meant to be," I told her as she got out of the car.
She chuckled as she shut the door.
"See you later," Violet told me as she walked up the driveway.
I chuckled as I left to go home.
Violet was my biggest cheerleader just as much as I was her biggest one too.
When I got home, I was ready for bed immediately. But, surprisingly, I had a voice message from Andy.
"Hey just wanted to see how everything was going. Call me back when you can. Thanks," his voice came through.
I sighed at his message. I was reading with my heart, not my head.
"Do I dare call him back?" I mumbled to myself.
I glanced at the clock and it was after 9. He was probably out to dinner or maybe he was home.
"I'll shower first before returning his call," I remarked to myself.
I went and got comfy for bed before going to return his call.
I took a deep breath before dialing.
After 7 rings, I heard the phone being picked up.
"Hello (Y/N)," Andy remarked.
I furrowed my eyebrows as if he could see me.
"H-how did you know it was me?" I asked chuckling.
"Well you always take Violet to her AA meetings and I figured that you would probably call me back around this time," he explained.
"O-oh," I remarked.
"So how are you? How's the New Year going?" Andy asked.
"I'm good I guess. Works is really busy so that's my main concern right now. How are you?" I asked him.
"Where do you work again? Oh, and I'm good just trying to find footing in the New Year," Andy commented.
"I work at IBM. I'm basically a secretary," I told him.
"Oh nice that must be well fun I suppose with all the new technology coming out," Andy remarked.
I smiled.
"Yeah, it's fun in some aspects. Some of my co-workers drive me bonkers," I told him.
Andy laughed.
"Bonkers? Like what do they do?" Andy asked.
"They are computer nerds," I commented chuckling.
"Computer nerds? Well, then I've never heard that before," Andy chuckled.
"Well, it's true. They know so much about the motherboards and the floppy disks and stuff," I told him.
"I'm not one on technology except music like a nice stereo or vinyl album," Andy commented.
"That's a good tool to have though," I told him.
"Right right," Andy replied.
You could tell we both were nervous on the phone every damn time.
"Soooooo," I remarked quite awkwardly.
"Yessss?" Andy asked.
"For my peace of mind, will you please tell me if I'm reading more into the kiss from New Year," I admitted nervously.
He sighed. But it wasn't a sad sigh.
"Well, I, I ain't going to lie. I like you but like you know I have a lot of issues still," he admitted.
Wait, did he just say he liked me? God, I sound like a high schooler.
"Yeah, I know that. You've got a lot to unpack still which is completely understandable," I told him.
You could hear him sigh again but this time it sounded optimistic.
"So I mean I don't wanna lose you in my life," Andy commented after a second.
"Oh you won't Andy I mean the universe has a nice way of bringing people together," I told him.
"Yeah I never thought of it like that," he remarked.
You could hear the smile in his voice.
"Well, of course, I think of the bigger picture," I replied as I grabbed my tea cup and took a sip.
"You got a smart way of thinking," Andy told me.
I smiled to myself.
"Thanks," I remarked chuckling.
Well, my heart could handle that he liked me. But time could only tell what would come of this situation.
