Chapter 35

Monday morning came too fast. I was back to reality at work. I dreaded going in.

"Darling you'll be fine you can't call in sick this time," Andy commented.

"But what if he snaps it's me? I don't wanna open that door," I explained as I finished filling up my coffee mug to take with me.

Andy shook his head.

"You definitely don't look the same from 4 years ago. And by that, I mean you are healthier and happier," Andy expressed.

I sighed.

"But if it gets too bad, call me and I'll come up with something to get you home," he replied once more.

"You are the best," I told him as he kissed me goodbye.

"Now go out there and get the world by its tail," he told me.

"I will," I told him as he walked me to the door and to the car.

He basically was living at my place during the weekends and on Mondays.

"And I'll be here when you get home," he told me before I got into the car.

I kissed his cheek before getting into the car.

And so, I was on my way to the office. I was nervous and dreading every second of it.

I arrived at the office and had to take several deep breaths.

I walked into the office and Deja was the first I saw.

"Hi good morning," I commented as I walked in.

"Good morning!" Deja replied as she motioned for me to come over to her desk.

"What's the scoop?" I asked her.

"Well, Jackson isn't here today in the office. They have another copyboy training today," Deja told me.

I sighed in relief.

"Thank god. I've been dreading all weekend to come in today," I told her.

She frowned at me.

"Well Jackson didn't do very well on Friday closing the copy room down before heading home for  the weekend so they called up this other guy named Keegan to do the interim position for now I suppose. But Keegan actually has experience in an office and he's like in his 40s," Deja told me.

"So is Jackson fired?" I asked her.

"Not necessarily. HR wants to move him to a janitor position if we keep him. But that's only if he does some training," she commented.

"Oh," I remarked as I saw Jackson walking with our normal janitor.

"But he is on the training route for the janitor position today which I really don't think he'll actually stay doing it after today. It's a shitty job," Deja remarked.

"Maybe it's karma," I told her.

"Girl you are speaking what my mind said," Deja commented as we both looked at the clock.

I definitely needed to get to my desk and get to work.

"I better get this week started," I commented before heading to my desk.

Deja was my second best friend. Even though we rarely had time to hang out outside of work, she always cared for me like a sister.

Off and on all morning, I'd see Jackson all over the place with our janitor. He wasn't really paying attention. At one point, there was a loud thud. The entire office laughed after seeing Jackson slip near the "caution wet floors" sign.

I was feeling a lot better about the whole Jackson situation. And best of all, I would go home to my Andy in a few hours. Best of all, Jackson never ever saw me up close or saw my desk name.

By 3,  I was on my way home. Deja and I walked to the parking lot together.

"Today was pretty good for a Monday," Deja remarked as we got to the parking garage.

"I think it's funny what happened," I commented.

"I know like karma was on his side today. I really don't think he'll show up tomorrow after this stuff happening today," she told me.

"If he does, my god will he be the joke of the office," I told her as I reached my car.

"See you tomorrow," Deja told me as I unlocked my car.

I waved as she walked a few cars over to hers.

I drove home happier than I did driving to work.

Andy was still at my house when I got home. When I walked in, I smelled something sweet.

"I'm home," I called into the house.

It looked like he had cleaned the living room and fixed up the house.

"In the kitchen darling," he called out.

I put my stuff down and walked into the kitchen.

He had a Betty Crocker frosting container on the counter and a Betty Crocker cake box on the counter as well.

"Hi whatcha doing?" I asked him.

He turned to look at me.

"I wanted to do something nice for you since you weren't sure how your Monday was gonna go," Andy commented as he paused frosting the cake in front of him.

I looked at the cake and it was such a heartwarming gesture.

He handed me the spoon that still had frosting on it.

I chuckled as I tasted the frosting. God, it hit the spot.

Andy went to wash some of the dishes.

"So how did your day actually go darling?" Andy asked.

"Well Jackson is now a janitor in training," I remarked as I handed Andy the spoon.

He furrowed his eyebrows.

"Wait? How?" he asked confused.

"We got a new guy named Keegan training for the copyroom. He's in his 40s. I guess Jackson didn't follow closing procedures on Friday afternoon," I explained.

"That's good news, right?" he asked as he finished the dishes.

"Yeah, it is. And best of all, he hit the floor 'cause he didn't see the regular janitor's wet floor sign," I remarked.

Andy chuckled.

"So today was actually a really good way to start the week?" Andy asked as he leaned in to kiss me.

After we separated I replied.

"Yes actually. And coming home to you making the cake was literally the frosting on the cake," I joked.

He smiled at me.

"I promised you that I would take care of you," he gestured to my necklace like he usually does when we talk seriously.

"And how have we only been together like 3ish months?" I asked.

He chuckled.

"It feels like forever and I mean it in a good way," he told me as he turned his attention to put the cake in the fridge.

"Yes it does," I replied as I went to see if Sam was in the backyard.

Sam was sitting on the back porch basking in the sunshine.

"So other than the funnies that happened, it was a good day?" Andy asked as he wrapped me in an embrace from behind.

"Yes it was pretty perfect," I commented as we watched Sam through the door.

Andy kissed the top of my head.

Life has it's ways of being sweet.
