"You want me to sing what song?" Andy asked me chuckling.
It was the evening of my birthday. We had just gotten home and I wanted to hear him sing "Flowing Rivers." It was an odd request but before us leaving for the dinner, a box of Andy's stuff that he had in his bedroom at his house. We had to get some stuff for Sam since Andy was back at my place till he went to Florida after our anniversary.
I glanced through it. And, sure enough, an original handwritten copy of "Flowing Rivers" from 1975 or 1976 was in there. There was a whole other verse that existed and it was cut from the album version in 1977. I didn't know there was a different version. The thing was, I loved that song when I heard it off the B side of "An Everlasting Love" but I wasn't a fangirl at all.
"Well maybe not tonight but I saw the original handwritten lyrics to it. I want to hear the original version someday. I hate to admit it but that's probably my favorite older song of yours," I told him.
He just stared at me. Not in confusion though. I think he was at a loss for words.
He took a second to collect his thoughts.
"You've never asked me to sing before that's why I'm a little shocked," he commented.
"I love your voice you know that. I just separate your work from your personal life," I told him as we heard Sam scratching at the door.
I disappeared back to the kitchen door and let him. Andy was staring still at me as I walked back in.
"Do you have any demos of it? I mean," I asked him.
"Not that I ever questioned your love for me but I see how much you love and care for me in this moment," Andy commented.
"Well yeah duh," I remarked as I glanced at the clock.
Thank god it was only a little after 6.
"I probably have a demo tape somewhere but I'll sing it for you whenever you want," he told me.
"Wait really?" I asked him.
"Yes. That song has a lot of meaning to me. It was one of the first I wrote during my big break and coming to America to work with Barry on my debut album," he told me as we finally settled on the couch for a few.
"I will admit I did listen to your music years ago. But I wasn't like a fangirl. I was a casual listener. I think "Flowing Rivers" was the B side to "An Everlasting Love," right?" I asked Andy.
He smiled at me.
"And you are just admitting this now?" he asked chuckling.
"Well I never thought it was important to the storyline," I teased.
Andy chuckled.
"I never thought that song would ever be brought up between us," he commented laughing.
"I couldn't wait to ask 'cause you know me I would forget," I commented.
He laughed.
"Well darling with your schedule that's understandable. Speaking of, did you get a call back from Apple?" Andy asked as I flipped through the TV schedule.
I didn't want to tell him that I was going for a second interview on Tuesday. I took half a day off work and Violet was gonna meet me there. Then, we would look at a couple of places, including a house that was near the Apple company. Apple had another position that I could do. Which would be running some sort of supervising the supercomputers and technology office in San Diego. This means, if I got the job, I would be moving from the LA area.
"No nothing yet. I'm hoping they call soon or I get a "Dear John" letter," I commented.
If I got the job on Tuesday, this meant I would have to plan my move sooner than I thought. Which meant, that while Andy went to Florida, I'd be packing and moving an hour from where I lived.
"Darling, Violet told me you two were going to San Diego on Tuesday. She told me by accident," Andy told me.
I facepalmed. God dang it, Violet. I couldn't complain though she was excited for me.
"I-I didn't want to tell you I got a second interview because if I get the job," I started saying.
"You'll have to move from here, right? And it's an hour away," he told me.
"Y-yeah," I remarked.
The entire day went from being on top of the world to worrying about my life's decisions.
"Then I'll move with you," he told me.
"Wait what?" I asked him in a serious tone.
"I'll move with you," he told me.
"You will?" I asked again.
I was overwhelmed with the fact he was willing to move with me.
"Darling, I'm in it for the long run. I love you and I'm willing to do anything for our relationship," he told me.
"I don't even have the job yet oh my god I love you so much," I remarked as he wrapped me in an embrace.
"I think since you bought your house here not to sell it. You own it right?" he asked me as he looked at me.
"Yes I do own it I love this house so much," I told him.
"I mean you're only going to be an hour away so I mean you could find an apartment to live in during the week or depending on how many days a week you'll be working," he told me.
"Wait that's a great idea. An apartment to live in during the week," I told him.
"See I'm a genius," he told me proudly.
"Yes, you are," I told him as I kissed him.
"So I'll see who can get us a list of apartments in San Diego and we can figure it out from there," he told me.
"I thought this was going to be a lot more stressful and Violet spewed it by accident," I commented chuckling.
"Well this weekend turned out to be full of surprises," Andy told me lovingly.
"And you are the best part of it all," I told him as he hugged me.
As the time ticked by, I began to realize my new chapter was here.
