"Violet, you haven't even been home for 24 hours yet and yet you are over-exerting yourself," I commented.

Violet had arrived home last night and I went to her house as soon as she called me this morning.

"I know but it's the first time I get to be in bed and my old routine," she remarked.

She hadn't even sat down for breakfast that Grandma Mary had made.

"I get that you are anxious and ready to get back to your old life Violet but slow down. We got time," I told her as I helped Grandma Mary do the dishes from the stove.

"Right well maybe it's the jet lag pushing me," was Violet's defense.

"Honey come sit down and eat with us," Grandma told her.

Violet complied despite wanting to run around and do stuff.

"You got the rest of your week to do what you want to. But right now, it's time to readjust to the time zone and this world of yours," I told her.

Violet sighed.

"How are you always right?" she asked chuckling.

"I don't know if I'm always right but I do know that you need to take it one day at a time," I told her.

"That's the thing I've been doing everything to get home quicker and now that I'm here, it's weird," she remarked.

"Of course, it's gonna be weird for a while. The weather, the people, and the music even won't be the same. But, you have me to talk to and if you want to start up AA in the New Year again here, I'm more than happy to join you," I told her.

"Thank you for being there for me," she remarked as she then turned her attention to her breakfast.

And so we ate and then helped Grandma clean up the kitchen. Then we went to focus on getting all the stuff fixed up in Violet's room. Before their arrival, I spent a whole day cleaning the whole house and doing the sheets and stuff as well. The only thing Violet needed to do was put everything back in its place.

"I got so many trinkets from the art places we went to," Violet commented as she opened one of the boxes.

Violet had clocked what I call a glass menagerie of figurines of different sculptures and even places in Amsterdam that she wanted to display on this specific shelf in her room.

"These are beautiful Violet," I told her.

"They didn't even cost that much and I'm surprised," she remarked.

I chuckled. Things weren't as expensive as they were here in the States.

"Is this a glass figurine of Jan Toorop? Did I say his name right?" I asked her.

"Yeah you did and yes it is. He's from the 19th century," Violet told me.

"That seems so long ago but was only almost 100 years ago," I replied.

"True. Oh wait this one is for you," Violet told me as she handed me a little glass hot air balloon figurine.

"Wait this is so cute," I remarked as examining it.

"It's to commemorate the trip from September and October for you and Andy," she told me.

"That's so sweet Violet thank you," I told her as she went back to focusing on the shelf.

"Of course. And don't worry, one of the boxes is jam-packed with the Stroop wafle things," she told me.

"Girl, are you for real?" I asked as I held onto the little trinket.

"Yes I bought like 10 bags before we left just to make sure we have enough till we can find a local store selling them," she commented.

"We need to find someone selling those," I told her.

"They are so addicting," she told me.

"I wonder who thought caramel in the center of the waffle," I commented.

"I don't know either but it was the best invention," Violet commented as she worked on the shelf.

At least life was normal temporarily.
