"I hate the week after a vacation," I mumbled as I poured my coffee.
It was Monday and I had to go to work. However, I did recently have a lot more fun than work.
"It'll be okay darling I'm sure it'll go by quickly. Plus, you said you only had to do some paperwork today according to Terri, right?" he asked.
Terri was the gentleman I had worked hand in hand with at Apple since I transferred.
"Yeah it's just paperwork but still," I remarked stifling a yawn.
"I'll be here when you get home," Andy told me as we sat at the kitchen table.
"That's true," I replied as I drank my coffee.
I was in slow motion trying to get my arse in gear for the new work week.
I got ready and headed to the office.
When I arrived, Terri was in his office. I stopped by before going to my office.
"Good morning Terri," I remarked as he motioned for me to come in.
"Good morning! How was the trip?" he asked kindly.
"It was good. Have you ever been to the Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque before?" I asked as he handed me a folder.
"Yeah actually about 5 years ago. It's a magical event if I do say so myself," he told me as I looked through the folder.
The folder had the paperwork I needed to do.
"It was so beautiful. Honestly, they said it was going to be cold and to us, it wasn't cold," I told him.
"Us? You went with?" Terri asked.
I hadn't disclosed I was in a relationship at all. I didn't think it was anyone's business.
"Y-yeah my fiance!" I lied as I pointed to the promise ring on my left ring finger.
"I had no idea you were engaged," he commented.
"He proposed at the fiesta," I lied once more.
God Andy's gonna hate me when I tell him.
"You are good at keeping things on the low. I like that about you. What's the lucky fella's name?" he asked as a follow-up.
"His name? It's Roy," I told him.
"Well, congratulations! I hope you two have a lifelong engagement," he told me.
"Thanks, Terri. I'll see myself out now," I remarked as I nervously went to my desk.
Only a few and far between people knew that Andy and I were together. It wasn't a super secret but we kept it so low-profile hardly anyone knew that I was his girlfriend.
I sat down at the desk and I worried that Andy would hate me after lying. I mean his middle name is Roy. And he's the one who first joked about being engaged at the fiesta.
The day went on and before I knew it, I dreaded my drive home to Andy.
I walked in and Andy was sitting in the living room.
"Hi darling," he commented.
"Hi fiance," I joked.
"Fiance?" he asked chuckling.
"Boy do I have a story for you," I remarked as I put my stuff up for the day.
He chuckled as I walked to sit with him.
"You look nervous what happened at work?" he asked.
"Well, Terri was nice and started the morning off by asking me how the trip went. He didn't realize or perhaps I never told anyone I was in a relationship. Personally, I think it's nobody's business," I explained at first.
"And the problem?" he asked.
"So as the conversation went on, I said "we" a few times. He asked "we? you went with someone?" And so, I was like yeah with my fiance, Roy. I'm sorry I lied about it and I feel bad," I commented.
Andy laughed.
"You were worried about this? Darling, I did the same thing last week when that one chick was trying to pry at us at the fiesta. I think it's cute you see us as marriage potential," he commented as he looked at my left hand.
"It didn't hurt that you gave me this when we were in Florida," I told him.
"That's what a promise ring is for. It's a placeholder," he told me.
"I never thought of it like that," I replied.
He smiled at my comment.
"I've always liked the idea of marriage. I just always seem to screw it up," he told me.
"Things don't work out for whatever reason love," I reassured him.
To a nice evening at home.
