"I didn't think I'd feel this much energy," I remarked as we settled at our hotel.
We finally finished our busy travel day arriving in Croatia. It was surreal being out of the country with Andy. We had only traveled in the States as you all know.
"You have energy? I'm beaten," he remarked as we looked around the room.
We had gotten a suite. The people at the front desk assumed the promise ring I was wearing was a wedding band and I didn't argue with them. Andy didn't either.
"I think it's the cause of the way they greeted us and how kind everyone's been. I don't feel drained like I normally do when I travel after a long day," I commented as Andy sat down on the bed.
"I barely understand the language here but they were like obsessed with that ring on your finger," he chuckled as he looked at the welcome guide on the bed.
"Well, maybe it's a premonition?" I asked him.
"One day," he told me as he leaned back on the bed.
We even had a view of the coast from our room. It was beautiful.
"So the fact we arrived during dinnertime. What are we gonna wanna eat?" I asked him.
The snacks and lunch we had on the 13-hour flight were wearing off on me.
He laughed.
"You hungry darling?" Andy asked without opening his eyes.
"I'm getting there yeah," I replied as I joined Andy on the bed.
We were lying backward with our legs hanging off the edge.
"We could do room service or we could go to that restaurant down the street like we saw coming up to the hotel," he commented.
"Whatever is easier for you. You look tired honey," I told him as I looked at him.
He opened one eye and looked at me.
"You can tell I'm tired?" he asked as I looked at him.
"Yes, and it's okay. I'm not too worried about going out to eat. We can eat from the comfort of our hotel," I told him.
"You are the best when it comes to compromising. I promise tomorrow we will go out and eat before we start the sailing tour," Andy told me.
I kissed his forehead.
"A relationship is usually 50/50. But some days you have to do 60/40 or 80/20 when things don't work out or something happens," I replied.
"I wonder if other couples comprehend this stuff. Maybe they'd do better or not divorce if they are married," Andy contemplated.
"I think it's cause were both been through life lessons we understand that complexity I suppose," I told him as we had a knock at the door.
"Weird who could that be?" Andy asked as I stood up to answer the door.
I looked through the peephole and it was a person from the front desk.
"Hi," I remarked as I opened the door slightly.
They were pushing a cart with champagne and strawberries.
"Yes complimentary of the hotel," they said in broken English.
Neither of us drank. But, with the bottle of champagne, I could take home to someone at work.
"Thank you so much," I told the gentleman who wheeled the cart into the hall of the suite.
"Enjoy," the gentleman said as he left.
"What is it?" Andy asked.
"It's champagne and strawberries," I remarked.
"We don't drink," he commented.
"We don't have to drink it. We can either leave it or I can give it to someone on the boat tour tomorrow," I told him.
"Good idea darling. Wait are they chocolate-covered strawberries?" he asked.
"Yes actually," I remarked as I went to wheel the cart in.
Andy was pretty headstrong with his sobriety but I decided to use the safe on site and locked in there. I then took the code and put it in my makeup bag.
Andy was at the dining table they had with the strawberries and sparkling water we had purchased downstairs before coming up to the room.
"Is this dinner?" I teased as I came to sit with him.
He chuckled and shook his head.
"No darling I guess this is an appetizer. Wait it's a dessert item though so I guess not," he realized halfway through.
I laughed.
"Your funny," I told him.
I went to grab a strawberry and so did he.
"Cheers," I remarked as I tapped my sparking water against Andy's.
"To the best birthday gift ever," he told me before we took a bite of the strawberries.
I smiled at his comment.
"I just hope everything else goes well. I cannot control the weather but it looks like it'll be smooth sailing tomorrow," I told him as grabbed another strawberry.
He looked at me, then the strawberry.
"Were you even listening?" I asked him.
"No, I wasn't. What did you say?" he asked as he took a bite of the strawberry.
I rolled my eyes.
"I said I think tomorrow will be smooth sailing," I told him.
"Oh," he remarked as he finished the strawberry.
He had something else on his mind. Nothing dirty either I didn't think.
"Yeah," I remarked as I stood up to go look out the window.
He followed me.
"What?" I asked him as he stopped me in my tracks.
He kissed me. Not like a quick kiss. You could feel the love.
"Strawberry kisses," I remarked giggling after we pulled apart after a second.
He chuckled and kissed me again.
"Thank you for planning this," he remarked after the second kiss.
"No reason to thank me," I told him as he smiled at me.
"No no I need to cause I do appreciate it," he told me.
I looked down at the ground and back up at him. I felt lost for words.
"To the best weekend of our lives," I told him.
"I second that," he replied.
To our trip in Croatia.
