This time it didn't take more than a week for this to come out, what fun. And we're into whumptober so angst fits perfectly.

========================================================

Back in the arctic:

Back in the Arctic, Dream sat in the cold silence of the cabin, his eyes fixed on the flickering monitor of his communicator. He had been alone for hours, lost in thoughts of the past, when suddenly, a series of messages and notifications began flooding the screen.

His heart pounded in his chest as he read the death message that had appeared in chat:

[Quackity blew up.]

His breath caught in his throat, and he felt a surge of grief wash over him. Quackity, his once-friend, was now gone, that was his last life.

But it was the frantic, desperate messages from Karl that grabbed Dream's attention.

[Help!]

[Pleas help me]

[Q is...gone and Sapnap is]

[Please help me]

[I'm by the crater]

[Please, someone, respons!]

[Please!]

The urgency in Karl's words was palpable, as the frantic messages pinged in, unlike a lot of people, Dream had never muted anyone, and his heart sank as he realized what had happened.

Dream couldn't do anything to help, as he sat there, frozen, staring down at the communicator with shaking hands. He could barely hold it.

It didn't take longe before Techno came into the room, only been gone for a couple minutes to do something else, he only left Dream alone for a small amount of time, but in that time everything had fallen apart.

Techno, not like Dream, had Karl on mute, actually he had most people on mute this days, if people really wanted to contact him they would have to do it personally, preferably in person. That way he could always slaughter them if he didn't like what they said, only in his mind though. He would never do that in real life, of course not.

As Techno walked into the room he saw Dream sitting there, legs crossed on the bed and eyes wide and scared. His hold posture was crouched together and he looked like he was ready to crawl into a ball at the smallest of sounds.

He had seen Dream like this before, but he didn't like it. This wasn't what they had worked towards.

Techno walked slowly towards Dream, hands in front of himself, but not threatening. Slow and predictable movements as he walked towards the small figure on the bed. "Dream?" He said slowly, "You okay there?"

It wasn't before he got even close that he saw the communicator in Dream's hands, shaking as the rest of his body. "Whatcha got there buddy?"

Dream didn't answer, only letting out small whines, like a scared puppy, and if Techno hadn't been that scared of what got Dream into this state, he would almost have thought it was cute.

"Hey, everything is okay. Everything is fine, you don't have to be scared." His voice was soft and slow as he sat down on the bed beside Dream, slowly taking his hands in his own and putting the communicator down. "Look at me buddy, into my eyes, just like that"

Dream slowly looked up and into Techno's eyes, tears slowly rolling down his cheeks. "I'm I'm sorry" he muttered under his breath, letting a pitying sound out.
