Disappointment
VINISHA"Congratulations Vinisha! You are 1st in class." Tr. Sarika says with a big wide smile.
I smile back at her while receiving my report card. My parents were sitting beside me. I give them my report card. My mumma had a genuine smile on her face while my father had a blank expression.
"She's a really good girl. Very sincere. If she'll work hard like this, then no one can stop her from achieving success. I can already see her future. It's really bright." Tr. Sarika praised.
Mumma smiled while looking at her. Papa was going through my grades. Once done he passed the report card back to me.
My parents signed on the required papers given by Tr. Sarika.
"You both are very lucky to have Vinisha as your daughter." Tr. Sarika said.
Mumma chuckled a bit. "Thank you so much. We'll take a leave now."
I was happy! Hella lot happy! That compliment from teacher made my day.
We three exited from the classroom. That's when papa's phone rang. "One second." He excused himself and went to a corner to receive his call.
After few minutes, me and mumma looked at his way and found him going through his phone. We both made our way towards him.
"What happened?" Mumma asks.
"Nothing. Just a call from the hospital." Papa answers with a bored expression.
"So, shall we go now?" I ask.
Papa sighed heavily. Me and mumma were just turning to leave before Papa's voice interrupted us.
"You should have taken science." He said.
Not again. Please.
I lift my head to look at him. He had this stern look on his face. "You should have taken science." He said again.
My happy mood just turned worst. And my eyes immediately started filling with tears.
"It has more scope. Commerce is useless and I don't know why you took it. Science was much better." He argued.
"Aa.... but can't you see. Our daughter is the topper of commerce. She got such a good grades in all the subjects." Mumma said to defend me.
"It's of no use." Papa said irritatedly. "If she's bringing good grades in commerce. She could have brought them in science too." He told her.
My mumma gave an annoyed look to him but didn't spoke anything in response.
"Dr. Sharma!" Someone called out from behind. It was Desai Uncle, Meera's father. He waved his hand at my father and called him over.
Papa made his way towards him leaving me and mumma behind.
I just had my head bowed. I was trying so hard not to cry. My mumma looked at me with empathy before she made her way towards Meera's mother.
I was left alone in the corner. Nobody was really paying attention at me so I let a tear fall down from my eyes. I sniffed and clutched my report card.
