Annual Sports Day
VINISHA

"Are you okay?" I ask Meera as we walk side by side.

She turns her head towards me and nods. "Yup! Better I guess." She forces a small smile.

I don't want to see her forced smile. I want to see her genuine smile. A happy wala smile.

It seems like ages have spent and her happy wala smile has not yet returned. I miss her talkings, giggles and mischiefs a lot.

She hasn't gotten over of what happened with Kushal a month ago. She is sad, very sad.

My gut feeling says that there is something she is hiding. Something much more bigger that she hasn't shared with me yet.

I sigh lightly and grab her little finger.

She looks down at my hand and smiles softly. "You are not a kid, Vini." She says and looks up at me.

"It's my habit. You know." I pout and squeeze my eyes to make a cute expression.

Since childhood, I have this habit of holding Meera's pinky finger whenever we are walking. Whether we are walking on streets, malls, school. While we are crossing roads. I hold her little finger everytime as a support system.

"Do you want to play badminton?" She asks and points at the girls of our class who were enjoying playing badminton.

"No" I shook my head. "They are already playing."

It was games period for our class. No one is allowed to stay in the classroom during games, so we all were out here in the playground.

Half of the boys were playing football. Some were playing cricket and the rest were playing basketball.

About the girls, only few are energetic enough to play outdoor games. I could see only few girls playing badminton and handball. The rest were walking around and gossiping in groups.

We both walk further and reach the basketball court. Aryan and his friends were playing basketball there.

An instant blush creeps on my cheeks when I see him dribbling and looping the ball into the basket. The sleeves of his white school shirt were rolled up till his elbows. Top two buttons were undone and his tie was loosely hanging on his collar.

Sweat glistening on his forehead and neck. The sweat drops falling down from his jaw making it's way inside his shirt.

His smooth hair ruffled up because of his habit of running his fingers through his hair again & again while playing.

I smile warmly and continue watching him playing.

Minutes later, Meera nudges my elbow to grab my attention.

"Hm?"

"Wanted to ask you something?" She says.

"What?" I gently shake my head.

"You are yet to reveal about your confession account to Aryan."

I blink my eyes then stare down at the ground. "Yeah, I know." I mumble.

"When are you gonna do that?" She asks.

I sigh and glance at Aryan in the basketball court. I revert my gaze and look back at Meera. "I'm...I'm just scared. About the aftermath."

She clicks her tongue. "It's not like he will murder you or something after knowing your secret."

"Still" I completely turn towards her. "I'm worried about his reaction. What if he will get hurt." I shake my head. "I did try to tell him few times but always got interrupted. I don't know what to do."
