To say that Jennie was surprised as she came home from school on Wednesday would be an understatement.
She didn't expect to run into her mother in the living room, who left her papers on the table and walked straight up to her daughter to pull her into a hug.
Jennie was too surprised to even think about returning the hug."Eomma? When did you get here?",
she asked as soon as she realized who was standing right in front of her. She was hardly used to her parents being home by now.
"The plane landed at twelve sharp. Let me have a look at you!"
She pushed Jennie away a little to get a better look at her, then she nodded.
"You've grown."
Jennie rolled her eyes, but couldn't help grinning.
"I haven't. 5'4; same as before."
"You must have made a mistake. I could swear you got a little taller.",
she argued, before she took Jennie's bag.
"Food is ready. How was school?"
Jennie searched for her father, before she answered. It wasn't unusual for her parents to return from business trips at the same time.
"School's perfect. We have exams coming up, but I probably don't have anything to worry about. Also, the planning for the benefit concert is going well. Where's Appa?"
Her mother smiled contentedly as she fetched the food from the kitchen. She hadn't cooked herself, Jennie could see that, but she knew her mother liked to cook when she had time. If she was lucky, she could eat her mother's breakfast and dinner for a few days.
"He's going to be a little late arriving, I think he needs to go back to the office to sort something out.",
Mrs. Kim explained to her daughter, placing a portion on the table before sitting down herself.
"So things are going well with the student council?"
Jennie beamed as she reported.
"It's going perfectly! I think this is going to be the best fundraiser in years. Ah... Are you guys free?"
"May 10th, right? One of us will definitely be able to come. Enjoy."
They ate in silence for a few minutes. Jennie enjoyed her mother's quiet, relaxed company.
"Do you have enough money? I can transfer some more if it's not enough.",
Mrs. Kim finally asked, breaking the comfortable silence.
Jennie shook her head."It's enough. I even have some left, don't worry."
"Good, very good. You know you can always call if you need anything?"
Jennie smiled broadly and nodded.
She didn't need anything. She definitely had everything necessary, even more, especially when it came to money. Jennie regularly had more than enough money left over to buy luxury clothes and unnecessarily expensive jewelry, she would definitely have her own car by now if she tried to save the money. Besides, Jennie knew how busy her parents were. She wasn't going to bother them."How was Japan? Did you do any sightseeing?",
she asked instead, trying to change the topic. For the next 10 minutes, she listened to her mother rave about Tokyo's famous Meiji Shrine, the blooming cherry trees in the parks, and business associates both friendly and unfriendly.
She talked about delicious sushi from real sushi masters and business lunches.
