It was a strange feeling.

Jennie felt wrong. Like she was interrupting an intimate conversation that wasn't meant for her ears. And yet Lisa's gestures made it quite clear that she wanted Jennie with her.
Almost needed her.

She tugged at her clothes and Jennie obediently took a step closer so that Lisa could take her hand.

Jennie had noticed Lisa's habit of pressing her nails into her hand when she was stressed. It was inconspicuous enough to miss if you didn't know.
Fortunately, Lisa didn't hurt herself when Jennie held her hand. Instead, she squeezed Jennie's hand and played with her fingers.

The strange man, whom Jennie only knew from the photos, watched his daughter's behavior carefully.

"I've missed you.",

he said suddenly.
Lisa flinched and stared at him. She looked shocked, overwhelmed, and out of control. Overwhelmed by the situation and how she should react.

Jennie clasped her hand with Lisa's.

"You were amazing on stage, sweetie.",

Lisa's father said softly.
Lisa swallowed.

"Thank you. Why do you want to talk to me?",

she asked coolly.
Her trembling hand, however, betrayed her strong feelings which she had to hold back with great effort. Jennie could do nothing but be there for her.

"Because I miss you.",

the man said.
Even softer than before.
Lisa pressed her lips together.

"Then why aren't you home?",

she asked, clawing Jennie's hand a little too hard, who let it pass silently.
Lisa's father sighed.

"Baby chicken, you know your mother and I have separated."

"Oh no!",

Lisa growled.

"You broke up with her! You cheated on her."

Jennie noticed that Lisa reacted differently than she did when she was truly angered.
Where Jennie was hot-headed and loud, almost shouting at people, Lisa was ice-cold and quiet. Almost whispering.

"Why? Because you don't love her anymore?"

"Baby chicken..."

"Don't call me that. Alice calls me that. Alice is my family."

These words obviously hurt both of them, Lisa as much as her father. Nevertheless, she remained stubborn. The man rubbed his temples.

"I am sorry. Lalisa... Did your mother tell you that? That I was cheating?"

"Have you?",

Lisa asked challengingly.
The man didn't hesitate for a second and shook his head.

"I would never cheat on her. I love her."

Lisa narrowed her eyes.

"Then why did you break up with her? And looked for someone new right after? If you love her?"

"Because I realized that I love her as a friend. As a best friend. Not as a partner."

"W-why didn't you just stay then? You could have stayed with your best friend. I-if only for my sake?"
