"Never think that war, no matter how necessary, nor how justified, is not a crime." - Ernest Hemingway

After we heard the explosion sound, Spencer took a U turn and drove back to the field office. As soon as we stepped inside the building, the cell service was up again. "What was that?" I asked as my phone started buzzing. "Porter!" I answered.

"Oh thank God, Girl Wonder." Garcia sighed in relief. "Service was dead but I was able to account for Rossi, JJ and Emily."

"I'm with Spence and Morgan left a message so he's okay." I replied.

"What about Hotch and Kate?" Garcia asked.

I glanced at Spencer and he started dialing Hotch's number. "It goes straight to voicemail."

"Pen, can you track Hotch's phone? Or the SUV GPA?" I asked, trying to remain calm.

"I'll see what I can do." Garcia said before hanging up.

I sat down and Spencer massaged my shoulders. "You're too tense, Precious."

My eyes were closed as I felt Spencer's touch. "I'm worried about Hotch."

Rossi and Morgan entered the bullpen and walked up to us. "Have you heard from Hotch?" Morgan asked.

I shook my head. "Not yet. Garcia said she's going to try and track him down."

My phone buzzed again. "Good news, I was able to trace the GPA like you suggested, Sugar." Garcia rambled.

"What's the bad news, Babygirl?" Morgan asked.

"The SUV is two blocks away and hasn't moved in 20 minutes." Garcia's voice was panicking. "They're the only ones who weren't accounted for."

I grabbed Spencer's hand and squeezed it tight. "Thanks, P." I ended the call. "Rossi, what do we do now?"

Rossi glanced at us and sighed. "Morgan and Cassie, you should go to Hotch's location and find out what happened."

Spencer pulled me closer to him. "I should go instead of Cassie."

"I get it, she's your girlfriend and you want to protect her, but she'll be safe with Morgan." Rossi stated.

I hugged Spencer and gave him a quick peck on the lips before putting on my vest and following Morgan. I was worried sick about Hotch.

Morgan and I reached the scene and spotted Kate lying on the floor, blood was oozing from her back and Hotch was right beside her, trying to keep her awake.

I ran to them and got on my knees. "Hotch, how are you?"

"They're not coming." Hotch spoke in a panic.

"What?" I asked before realizing what he was talking about. "Morgan, try to get their attention." I pointed at the ambulances outside the line.

"There's no point." Hotch stated. "We profiled that the first wave of police officers and paramedics would be targeted. They're waiting until it's safe."

A young man showed and looked at Hotch. "I asked why they weren't coming and I told them you two were seriously injured."

Hotch glanced at Kate. "Sam, you should leave." He begged the man. "Cassie, you and Morgan shouldn't be here either. If we're right, another bombing is about to happen."

"I won't leave you, Hotch." My eyes were starting to water.

"Go to Reid." Hotch stared deep into my eyes. "He needs you more than I do."

Morgan got a phone call and stepped aside. "I'm not leaving."

"It's an order, Porter!" Hotch raised his voice.

"I don't give a damn about it." I shouted but then noticed Morgan giving me a slight nod. I glanced at Sam and my eyes widened. "No..."

Sam started running with Morgan not far behind. I stood up, pulled my gun and ran after them. We reached the subway tunnel. It was dark and damp. "Agents..." Sam taunted us.

"There are electrical wires everywhere." I pointed out. "If we fire our guns, we will die."

"What to do, right?" He mocked us.

Sam pretended to run, laughing hysterically, before electrocuting himself on the tracks. Morgan ran to him and tried to find a pulse. "Damn it!" He shouted. I holstered my weapon and moved to my partner. It was time to return to Hotch and Kate.

After an ambulance took Hotch and Kate to the hospital, Emily, Morgan, Spencer, Rossi and I stared at the evidence presented to us. "Is this an act of terrorism to the city or is there a specific target?" Rossi questioned.

As if on cue, Garcia called. "Okay, I found something interesting."

"What is it, P?" I asked.

"Get this. Prior to the shooting, the hospital Hotch is in got a call from the embassy to close the emergency room" She informed us.

"They only do that when diplomats are in danger of being attacked." Emily chimed in.

Realization hit me. "The hospital is the target and I bet that paramedic is part of the cell."

We all headed to the hospital and noticed the government officials had been killed. Morgan ran to the ambulance parking lot and Rossi, Spencer and I followed him. When we arrived, the ambulance was leaving the hospital.

The paramedic grinned at us before slashing his own throat. I got covered in his blood and Spencer held me in his arms. I was in shock and felt powerless. And now Morgan was driving an ambulance that had a bomb inside.

Morgan was able to jump out of the ambulance and it exploded without harming anyone. Kate Joyner died from the wounds sustained in the bombing and Hotch had minimal injuries but wouldn't be able to fly in a while.

The plane ride back to Quantico was silent. No one knew what to say after what happened in New York. It was too quiet, too dark, too damaging... We almost lost Hotch, Kate died, Cooper got shot... It was one of those cases and marks us for life. I couldn't get over the blood all over me. I watched a man commit suicide in front of me and couldn't even stop it. That feeling was paralyzing.

"Are you okay?" Spencer asked once we arrived at the BAU.

"I feel like we failed today." I stated with a sorrowful expression. "We should've seen the signs."

Spencer pulled in for a hug and kissed the top of my head. "I know, Precious. But we did everything we could."

"Kate died." I rebutted.

He held me tighter in his arms. "I know." He whispered.

Being in Spencer's arms was comforting. When he wrapped my body with his long arms, I felt safe. It was as if I found my home. Spencer Reid was home, my safe haven, my true love. I would've fallen apart if it weren't for him. I couldn't imagine a time when Spencer wasn't my boyfriend, my soulmate, the love of my life.
