A knock on my door makes up jump from the bed I slept in last night. Slowly with shaking hands, I look through the peep hole.
"Sis it's me open up. I got burritos." Jackson talks through the door.
I unlock the door and move when opening it for him to come in.
"Sorry. Did I wake you?" He looks at me.
I rub my eye slightly then force a yawn down. "Yeah but it is fine. Where did you burritos at this hour?"
Jackson places the bag on the table and sits in one of the chairs with the table in this motel room. "I woke up and went exploring around a bit. Since we didn't get the chance to yesterday once we found this motel that had openings then went to look for dinner."
I nod and walk over to my bag on the dresser. I grab some fresh clothes and walk to the bathroom to change, I showered last night which was not easy and a bit painful standing on my ankle. I remove the boot from my ankle and then quickly change out of the pajamas and into the day clothes. I then place the boot back on, brush through my hair and do the morning routine with hygiene.
I open the bathroom door and Jackson has got the burritos out of the bag and on paper plates for us. "I wasn't sure if you have morning sickness or not but I got water, some ginger drink or regular soda."
"I will take any of it." I shrug. "The morning sickness has never hit. I honestly don't even feel nauseous, maybe a bit more tired here and there when I think on how I have felt but otherwise I wouldn't have known if it wasn't a routine test the hospital done."
"Could you imagine not knowing you're pregnant until the bump starts popping out." Jackson shivers.
"I would think that would be horrifying or nerve racking." I shrug.
"The things y'alls bodies go through." Jackson shakes his head.
"Hey at least you are well trained on buying female products." I smile wide and he gives me the bored look.
"Let's not talk about embrassing moments like that." Jackson sighs then moves me to sit at the table. "Besides, you need to stay off that ankle."
I huff but the sight of the food ends all remarks I was going to throw at him.
Not that I don't see why it would be embrassing that he was taught what a female needs by an older woman at the store because I had started my cycle while we were home. Jackson freaked seeing my bedsheets when I went to put them in the washer so he quickly left me at home to go get me things, but he had no clue I already had a couple pads from my friend and her mom. So I knew all about it due to my friend's mom helping me before it started, she thankfully gave me a couple items and I knew what to buy, however, my older brother freaked out ran to the store. When Jackson did come back I think he bought half the shelf of female products.
"So what are you wanting to do today?" I look to Jackson trying to change my mind before I laugh at funny moment.
"I have looked into the real estate in the area and you wouldn't believe the price of housing."
"It is expensive? We can just continue on then if that is the case."
"No. No. It is quite the opposite actually I can easy buy us each a house."
"Huh?" I ask all confused.
"Do you remember the amount we got from selling the house we lived in that Mom and Dad had already paid for before they passed?"
I nod.
"I have kept that money like you told me too other than making some investments, in which more than tripled the money since you were sixteen. In three years it has gained a lot of money. The prices here we could each buy a nice house and still have more than enough money to live off of until we get jobs. Although I hadn't bought many things so even the money I got from my job has just been adding up."
"Jackson, I didn't tell you to hold onto the money for me. I had said that money needs to be yours for all that you done for eight years that you were my guardian since our parents passed before I was an adult to where I could take care of myself."
"That didn't feel right so I made some smart moves by investing it. Then I pulled it out this morning and it had more than tripled. Which I have officially split in half between us also."
Jackson hands over a new phone this time.
"That is your new number so we can ditch that phone and he can't trace you by that anymore." Jackson takes my old phone and pulls it apart. "Also the new phone has the bank account in your name and the money in it already. This is yours too." He then lays a card on the table.
I take the phone and he hands me a piece of paper for the account to where I put it in and see a very large amount. My eyes bulge as my mouth falls open and I put my burrito down that is half eaten.
"This can't be right." I look up at him and he holds another phone up that is different from the one he had just yesterday, he must have gotten a new one too.
"This is the account with my half." Jackson smiles wide. "See we are even."
"It isn't about being even, Jackson."
"I don't see a reason for me to have all the money Adina. You are rightfully entitled to half and I made sure you got it." Jackson cuts me off and I know I won't win this round.
"How early did you wake up? How early does things open around here?" I look to the clock and stop talking. It is already mid-day.
"You were tired and needed the rest." Jackson scratches his head. "Anyways, you up for house shopping around this is the place you want to live? Or should we go exploring the town more first? At least all important things are tended to now."
"I am not sure. Let's explore some make sure it does feel right."
Jackson nods and I get back to eating.
