All my thoughts, when I am not working, circles around Adina. Our date is tonight and I am wanting to do something beyond special.
She deserves it.
I want to show her I am good for her.
That is my hope for tonight at the very least. Everything in me is screaming to show her just how important she can be to someone, and that someone I want to be is me. My heart is already calling to hers and I will patiently wait until she can give me hers in return.
"What is on your mind?" Mom asks and I look over to her.
"What makes you think I got something on my mind?" I tease and she narrows her eyes at me.
"Because you have been stirring that batter for the last ten minutes with no lumps."
I stop stirring and move the bowl over to her open hands.
"So is your mind on Adina?" Mom looks over once scooping a spoon full of the batter into muffin tins.
"Yes. Our first date is tonight and I want it to be perfect."
"Tell me about it." Mom smiles and looks at what she is doing.
"I thought food."
Mom nods. "Given." She laughs. "And?" She looks up to me briefly but I sigh which makes her sit the bowl down. "Your Dad was right then, she must mean a lot to you."
"It feels so right and perfect being around her. Never have I felt this way and I know a little of her past enough to know it could take time."
"Go with what feels right and try not to over think it."
"Yeah, not to over think it." I sigh and rub my hands down my face.
"When is the date?"
"I am picking her up at five."
"Uh, son?"
"Yeah?" I look over to Mom and she laughs.
"You need to leave here if you're going to make it. You been sitting here a good portion of the day in thought and it is four now. So unless you plan to pick her up in flour and batter clothing I suggest you run to your apartment first." Mom snickers and I get up kiss her cheek and race out the door. "Love you and good luck!" I hear as the door closes.
I get a quick shower and put on my cologne as I thrown on clean, nice clothes I look at my bed. Wallet, phone. Wait. Where are my keys?
