It's starting to get brighter out meaning it's going to get hotter and we should start heading out before it's the afternoon where it's the sun's highest point.

I shake John awake. He looks scared. "Sorry. We have to go find food and go find the water." I say.

"Okay, let's pack this up though." He says pointing to the mess we made last night with the parachute.

"I forgot about the sunscreen. You're pretty pale, you should put some on."

"I mean for district 12 I would say I'm pretty tan, but me compared to you, I guess you could say that." He's right. I am like a whole shade darker than him.

"Just put some on. I need some on my face. I burn easily there."

We put the sunscreen on and when we were done I had John turn around so I could put the bottle back in the bag.

"You ready?"

"Yeah, do you know which direction we should start going?"

"Not at all, let's just walk." I say. I don't know how to start looking for water. I mean I lived right next to it for years. I never had a problem finding water.

As we walk we are silent making sure no one can hear us, but a couple minutes into the walk John speaks up.

"What's district 4 like?"

"Shiny. It's beautiful. Kids laughing everywhere you turn. The beach is always right there." I say with a smile.

"Whenever you talk about things you love you get a little sparkle in your eyes." I turned to him in shock. He laughs at me. "I saw it when you talked about your siblings in the interviews."

"Yeah, I love them. They are my pride and joy. They're basically my own kids at this point." He looks at me confused. "I guess you didn't see some of my interviews talking about them."

John nods and turns to me. "How are they basically your own kids?"

"My parents were never really there. I mean my dad kind of was, but never a lot. My mom just hated me. She loved my siblings, but she never really showed it. They left me to go to work to watch my siblings. My parents had me at a young age and I 'ruined' their lives." He turns to me with a sad smile. "Enough about me. How's 12?"

"It's pretty boring. I mean it's dark. 12 is split into two parts. There is the seam and then the square where all the rich people live. I live in the seam with my four younger siblings." He smiles.

"You do the same thing you know. You smile when you talk about 12."

"I love 12. I mean it's where I grew up. You know, there is this amazing bakery. Their bread is amazing. I wish you could try it."

"I wish."

"If you get out of this alive you should. It's called Mellark's Bakery."

"I'm not getting out of here without trying to help others." I say. "I need to find Adrian and get him out. He's only 12."

"In here you shouldn't be putting others before yourself."

"I know but-" I get cut off by the sound of something moving. John goes to say something when I put my hand to his mouth telling him to shut up.

I look around and see a group of cacti. I slowly walk up to the cacti. Something is moving behind it. I can hear it. I put my hand on my knife belt getting ready to take out my knife. All of a sudden someone's voice comes out.

"Please, don't throw the knife, it's me." I see Adrian standing up from the cacti. I drop my hand from my belt and walk behind the cactus bush to hug him.

"God dammit, Adrian, I could have killed you."

"Yeah, but you didn't."

"And you're lucky for that. Do you have someone you're with?"

"Yeah, but she's back at the camp we set up, by the water."

"Water?"

"Yeah, we found it after running from the cornucopia."

"Great, that's what we are looking for. Can you take us?"

"Yeah."

We start walking the way Adrian is telling us to go. "It's a little bit of a walk. I came out for food and went a little too far."
"You shouldn't have gone out by yourself."

"Yeah well if I didn't go out I wouldn't have found you." I laugh at his comment. Adrian looks at me again. He really looks at me this time. "Who's blood is that?"

"The girl from 9 attacked me and I had to kill her." I say. "I just need that water to wash off the blood."

"Okay. It's a lake. We don't know if there is anything in it or not. We got a filter from a bag Rose got at the cornucopia."

I nod and we continue walking.

We walked for a good 30 more minutes until the ground started to get a little bit softer. And in another 30 minutes we are at the lake.

I run to the lake, take off my belt of knives, and jump in. It feels so good to be in the water again. I scrub my body to get the blood off. Soon John is joining me. He helps me scrub the blood out of my hair and my arms.

"You probably shouldn't have gotten your stitches wet." John says.

"Oh well. Might as well be a little rebellious with my stitches." I say with a smile.

I see Adrian with the girl from 11. I think her name is Rose. She sees me looking at them and smiles and waves at me. I wave back.

Me and John are just swimming around the lake enjoying our time away from the heat.

"Ouch!" John says. "I think something just bit me." I look down to see if I can see anything. My worst fears from the stories I heard in District 4.

Piranhas.
