It's been a long 2 years. When Caspian won his games he was immediately brought back and put into surgery. He lost too much blood during the transportation to the capitol.
It came to the decision that I had to make and I'm sure he still resents me for it. When it came to the decision of his life or his arm I knew what I was going to pick. Even if I picked the other option, Snow would never have let me leave him to die.
Caspian now has a prosthetic arm. I think he's gotten used to it, but I can see that the small spark that he used to have in his eyes is now gone. That's because of my decision. A decision I made to save him.
He says he isn't upset about it, but I've known him forever. I know him like a regular mom should know their kids. I can tell he is struggling, but he puts on a brave face for Maisy and I.
"Hey, princess." Finnick says, kissing me on my cheek, taking me out of my thoughts.
"Hey, Fishy." I say, smiling up at him. He playfully rolls his eyes and wraps his arms around my waist. I put my arms around his neck and pulled him into a kiss. "How was shopping with Cody?" I ask when I pull away.
There's a glint in his eye when I bring up the shopping with Cody. Something like happiness and nervousness? "You know Cody. Always has a frown unless he's with you." He frowns. "It's like you're the favorite."
"But I am." I say, a teasing smile playing on my face.
He chuckles and pulls me into another kiss. I hear the front door open. "Ugh." I hear someone groan. "I do not need to come back from the office just to see you guys making out in the kitchen." My now 11 year old baby girl says to us.
"I'm sorry, Maisy." I say, pulling away from Finnick and moving to lean against the counter.
"You're all good Cori. I see enough with Casp and Ara." She says, shivering in disgust.
"Do I need to talk to him about that?" I ask.
"No, it's fine. I normally just walk out and he apologizes later." She says.
"Okay. How was the work today?" I ask, moving to start making dinner.
"Same old. Except we did get this older lady today who was talking about how she thinks she got this rare fish disease that doesn't exist." She laughs.
