Prologue

Rylee's POV

Since the dawn of my life, the Remingtons have been the bane of my existence. Their name is a melancholic tune that echoes through the corridors of my memory, a continual reminder of the catastrophic feelings that have developed within me since I was a young child. My parents never fail to mention the Remingtons, their words dripping with the venom.

The flames of my resentment blazed even fiercer the moment my eyes met that unsightly Tristan, the heir to the Remington corporation. Possessing a beast-like charm, he regarded me as if I were some loathsome creature blocking his path. His presence exuded a dark aura that compelled everyone around to lower their heads in submission as he strolled by. Kids may worship them, but not me—who vowed to never bow before those reming-gones.

Their surname never escaped the corner of my parents' lips, a sacred utterance as if they were revered deities. It was this very name that cast shadows over our lives, giving us never ending problems. My father has a deep-seated anger, roots entwined with disdain for the Remingtons. My mother, on the other hand, once entangled in the baffling love of Tyler Remington, found herself chained by a love left unresolved.

Tyler Remington, the breaker of hearts, shattered my mother's world, leaving behind a love without closure. My father despised how my mother clung to the remnants of adoration for the Remingtons.

As for me, I harbored resentment for the family that stained my childhood with the permanent ink of misery. One family, one name, forever etched in the ruins of my innocence.

All I craved was revenge, a burning desire to make him feel the anguish I endured as a child. How could the Remingtons bask in the lap of luxury, knowing they'd made an innocent child's life a living nightmare?
