(Okay, so, first of all, I just wanna say that I've been taking school a lot more seriously for a while now. So sorry that I haven't published since last year. But moving on. This chapter is a staggering 14,000 words long. That's... double what it used to be. Therefore, I'm planning to make chapters shorter from now on. Or if you guys are fine with these absurdly long chapters, I'd make them maybe 10k words long. Well, about that long, anyway. Also, lots of stuff in this chapter. And something with Y/N that I've wanted to reveal for some time now and that I've also hinted at. Vaguely. But this is getting too long, so enjoy the chapter.)

The hour was late, and most people would be sleeping by now. Even so, there were multiple maids welcoming Princess Iris back to the castle in the main hall.

She, along with her bodyguards, looked completely unaffected by them. In contrast, Y/N and Kazuma had utterly baffled expressions on their faces like they couldn't believe what was happening.

The two commoners were led to a luxurious room at the top of the castle with two beds placed in the middle.

Claire, the knight woman, said she had something to do and excused herself before scurrying away.

Y/N and Kazuma were left in the room with the princess, who was excited like an ordinary child, and the mage, who seemed as calm as ever.

While the brothers were taking in the room, Iris whispered to the mage who then nodded in understanding.

Mage: "'Satou Kazuma-sama, Y/N L/N-sama, welcome to the castle. You're guests, so please make yourselves comfortable. Just treat this place as your home and rest easy. This is now your room... Well then, please continue with your tales of adventure!' The princess said."

Hearing the mage who was smiling brightly, Y/N and Kazuma blinked once or twice before turning around and huddling together. They spoke to each other in whispers.

Y/N: "Bro, I don't wanna be here. Let's leave."

Kazuma: "I don't like this either, but let's at least hear her out. I, at least, wanna know why we're here."

Y/N: "I don't care why we're here, I care that we're here! This is basically kidnapping! Why is royalty like this?!"

Kazuma: "You really don't like royalty, do you...? Wait, I know that smirk. No. No, we're not doing it. Y/N, no."

Something clicked together in Y/N's mind when Kazuma spoke just now, causing a smirk Kazuma knew too well to form on his lips. Y/N began turning back to the princess, but Kazuma swiftly held him in place with a hand over his mouth, preventing him from speaking.

Kazuma: "You can't just loudly sing about disliking the government in front of the freaking royal princess! Stop being so deranged!"

Y/N: "Hhlheth mhe sphheakhh tho thhe pheophleh, Khazhumah!"

Kazuma: "Stop speaking! I don't want your spit on my hand!"

Eventually, Y/N lost interest in doing what he wanted to do, and the incoherent mumbling stopped. Kazuma released him, and seeing that Y/N was too annoyed to do anything else, he turned back to the princess and mage, who both seemed confused.

Kazuma: "Uh, hey, miss... A word?"

The mage quickly regained her usual, calm expression and stepped toward Kazuma. He gestured for her to follow a little bit away from Iris and Y/N, who was kind of glaring at him.

Near a corner of the room, the mage spoke to Kazuma.

Mage: "Is there something I can do for you? Ah, just call me Rain. You don't need to use honorifics with me. I might be a noble, but I come from a small house that can't compare with the Dustiness house. As the friend of Lady Dustiness, your status is probably higher than mine..."
