Chapter 35: Body Swapping

(Heya, been a while. Like, really long. Uh, I don't really know what to say here. Aside from that life sucks and writing takes a while with these stupid ass 12k words chapters, that is. Uh, this chapter was kinda difficult to write cuz I couldn't come up with a decent plot for a while. I ended up having to make a whole plotline for the future and stuff. I think I had something I wanted to say, but I forgot. Thus, enjoy the long-awaited chapter!)

As the alarm warning about an attack by the Demon King's army blared on, Darkness, now in full armor, was banging on the door of the bros.

Darkness: "Kazuma, Y/N, you awake? You hear that alarm, right? Get your gear ready, we've got to go help out!"

Kazuma: "We're still sleeping."

Darkness: "Don't make me repeat myself, idiot! As adventurers, we have the duty to fight against monsters!"

Kazuma: "Can't hear ya, my eyes are closed."

A frustrated grunt was heard from the other side of the door. Despite that, the banging on the door continued.

Darkness: "Say something, Y/N! Punch some sense into this idiot!"

Unfortunately for Darkness, Y/N was kind of on Kazuma's side this time.

Y/N: "Look, even I don't wanna bother with that right now. Despite how strong we are, Kazuma isn't even level 20 yet, and I'm barely level 25. We're not even mid, and they're asking for high level adventurers."

Kazuma: "Exactly! Now let us be! We've earned this rest!"

Darkness: "You two are impossible! Fine, I'll join the fray with Aqua and Megumin instead! Low-levels should just hide in their beds and cower!"

With those strong words, the banging ended. Loud stomps headed away as Kazuma prepared to sleep again. Y/N looked up at the ceiling calmly while laying on his back.

However, not even a minute later, loud yelling could be heard from the room next to theirs.

Aqua: "Not going, not going! Why do I need to go to such a dangerous place?! I came to the capital to play, not fight the Demon King's army!"

Darkness: "Stop squirming! The more healers we have, the better! Just look at how pumped Megumin is...!"

Aqua was holding onto her bed post for dear life as Darkness tried to pull her away. Meanwhile, Megumin had just finished changing. She looked triumphantly forward as she held the edge of her hat.

Megumin: "Darkness, I'm not going to the castle first, I'll go straight to the army! The moment things turn chaotic, I can't use my magic! The first shot's mine! Or better yet, maybe a single use of my all-powerful Explosion magic will wipe the whole army off the map!"

Darkness: "Megumin, no! Stop fooling around! You too, Aqua! Let go of the bed post!"

Hearing the commotion, Y/N could only sigh at the absurdity of it all.

No matter where they went, this party would always be as problematic as ever.

Y/N: 'Really, how troublesome can they be? This isn't our fight. We can finally just go home.'

Thinking Kazuma would have a similar thought process, Y/N turned to look at him.

He let out a surprised sound similar to "Hueh" when he saw Kazuma flipping his blanket off of him and getting dressed in his adventuring gear.

While he was changing, Kazuma spoke up.

Kazuma: "Get up, Y/N. This is our chance to become famous for real!"
